One thing I dislike about doing this Twitter feed is people who jeer at contenders for applying for more than one constituency - or for several seats.
Whatever our walk of life, doesn't everyone apply for a string of jobs until we get one?

Andy Burnham is poised to announce “robust” new sanctions on Israeli settlements in the West Bank next month ahead of Labour conference
The prime minister wants to strengthen the government’s approach in response to Israeli plans to open tenders for the construction of 1,200 settler homes
A senior government source told The Times that Burnham wanted to take a far more “robust” position than his predecessor Sir Keir Starmer. The source expected him to approve plans for a trade ban on Israeli settlements and the sanctioning of individuals
Officials have warned, however, that a ban would bring significant practical difficulties: distinguishing between goods from the settlements and goods from Israel would be challenging. They have also said that a ban on services would be impractical
Officials said there was a significant risk that “legitimate” Israeli businesses would be hit by the ban and that it risked undermining trade with Israel more broadly. They have also raised concerns that Palestinian businesses in occupied territories could be hit by the sanctions
The issue has divided the Labour Party. More than 140 Labour MPs, equivalent to nearly a third of the party, signed a letter calling for the government to ban trade with Israeli settlements. Supporters of the ban are also preparing to table a motion at Labour’s conference next month
Labour Friends of Israel, which includes senior Labour MPs and peers, said it “strongly opposes” the Israeli settlements and supported “calibrated steps against extremist settlers and extremist settler groups”
But it added: “A boycott of trade with settlements is practically impossible and will become a de facto boycott of all of Israel, which would be deeply damaging to the UK national interest, the British Jewish community and Palestinian workers
“Moreover, with a general election on October 27, there is a real risk that untargeted action feeds the ‘siege mentality’ of the Israeli right and is thus politically damaging to Israel’s opposition, which is leading in the polls and will bring about a substantive change in direction.”

At the Sir David Amess Children’s Parliament, we do something simple but powerful: we put children in charge.
Our elected Child MPs (aged 7-11) step into real parliamentary formats inspired by what they see in the House of Commons. One of the most impactful is our child-led “Grilling” - a Parliamentary Select Committee-style session where our Top Team question adult experts.
With support from their classmates during Question Time, these young parliamentarians lead the conversation, challenge ideas, and hold adults to account. They are guided by mentors including Peers, Members of Parliament, and Councillors - but the platform, the voice, and the direction belong to the children.
The result? Genuine engagement. Growing confidence. And most importantly, children learning that their voice matters in shaping the world around them.
This is civic education in action.

I've decided to leave this platform and my Department will too.
A platform originally designed for free speech and expression now favours abuse and misinformation over meaningful debate.
It isn't healthy for our democracy or our communities and I don’t want to support it.
Founding Patron @Anna_Firth led the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected Child MPs at Spring Meadow Primary School in Harwich, Essex on Friday last week.
It was a wonderful moment as pupils stepped forward to take on their democratic roles, representing the very best of pupil voice, civic engagement and active participation. Moments like this show exactly why the Sir David Amess Children’s Parliament continues to matter - inspiring young people to understand democracy not just in theory, but in practice.
A huge well done to all the children elected, and thank you to the staff at Spring Meadow Primary School for their support and enthusiasm in making the day such a success.

Caught a fair bit of flack for this at the time, but anyone who spent a decent amount of time actually talking and listening to the public could tell Starmer's position was irrecoverable months and months ago
Powerful words from Lady Diana Brittan in @thetimes.
Those falsely accused in Operation Midland are not recognised as victims & were not even told of Carl Beech’s release.
Those falsely accused must be viewed as victims in law!

@campbellclaret It’s not a mistake. It is who they all are. Wooden tops. Even the humblest student of politics at school wouldn’t have made such a mistake.
Nothing personal against @SuellaBraverman (& I’m glad CCHQ withdrew their earlier press release) but her defection from the Conservatives will make it easier for the Tories to win back many of the 7m centre/centre right voters who feel politically homeless #ProsperUK.
