Germany doesn’t have Nazi monuments to “remind” citizens of their history. Instead, they have memorials for the 6 million Jews and others who were murdered.
The U.S. doesn’t need statues of confederate generals to “remind” us. We need monuments for Nat Turner & Harriet Tubman.
Jaw-dropping to read that the German success re the coronavirus pandemic was based on U.S. research that was ignored or dismissed by the U.S. government! --> https://t.co/zTdjB8JGM6
I cannot understand the resistance of some conservatives Christians (and Catholics) to listen to public health officials. Hatred of government? Arrogance? Stupidity? Selfishness? Their intransigence leads to infections and death. It is anti-life.

What Trump + Senate GOP have done is hold hospitals, working people, and the vulnerable hostage so they could get in $500 billion (that will be leveraged into $4T) in corporate welfare.
Without the Wall St giveaway, GOP refuses to fund hospitals & unemployment. It’s inhumane.
I think everything is about to change as tens of millions of Americans suddenly learn what is required of them to prove they are deserving of unemployment income, and to keep proving it over and over every week. People are going to grow angry.
UBI may just suddenly click soon.
We bailed out Wall Street in 2008
...nothing trickled down
We gave corporations a $2 trillion tax cut in 2017
...nothing trickled down
We just handed corporations a $500 billion blank check during a national emergency
...nothing will trickle down
We’ve seen this all before.
3.283 million ppl filed for unemployment benefits for the 1st time just in the past week, 4X the previous record.
This does *not* reflect the impact on the gig economy. In fact, this crisis will accelerate our move to a gig economy.
We need to get to a UBI & Universal HC, ASAP.
I'm don't know where this widespread conservative Christian "Ignore public health officials" impetus comes from. Hatred of government? Arrogance in thinking we're too holy to get infected? Selfishness? Stupidity? Whatever it is, it is endangering lives, and therefore anti-life.
It is a horrifying absence of political imagination to prefer letting millions die to, say, trying an appropriately sized basic income and mobilizing the economy to surge health resources for 3-6 damn months.
Our choices are not mass economic deprivation or mass death.
Bailing out mega-corporations who have been dodging taxes, shafting workers, and bending the rules to enrich themselves for decades is bad enough in normal times.
Now, in a national emergency, it's morally repugnant.

.@BernieSanders on the coronavirus response:
“Our job is to act in an unprecedented way, both in terms of healthcare and the economy. And it is going to cost a lot of money, but not spending that money now will make a bad situation even worse.”
