I am the GRA representative referred to in yesterday’s statement. I welcome the withdrawal of the potential misconduct allegation, but I am bitterly disappointed that An Garda Síochána pursued it in the first place.
I have spoken on many issues affecting members in the past.
Elected representatives must be able to speak for members without fear that doing so will lead to misconduct proceedings.
I will not be making any further comment on the matter.
Spoke with the members involved in last night’s incident, v proud of their courage & professionalism. Once again, colleagues have gone above and beyond for public safety without having proper pursuit training. Thankfully, it ended safely this time. https://t.co/DtCvLif5L8
Mick O’Neill was a gentleman and great friend first, who just happened to be one of Ireland’s greatest photo journalists … such a sad loss to Irish journalism. So many great memories of time in his company. Never without a smile and always engaging company. Rest in Peace pal.

Thank you to @TaraMcManu78 from the @gardarep for sharing with EuroCOP the research she has conducted with Garda members who have left the force. Sadly so many EuroCOP members could relate to the findings
Leaving the Garda was like ‘walking away from an abusive relationship’

Why are so many gardai quitting what was once a job for life?
What do Garda bosses need to do to make them stay?
And what opportunities are out there for gardai who do leave?
I get answers from former garda Stephen Moore, who now runs a company advising emergency services personnel on career moves (and persuades many officers not to quit). It was an interesting chat.

Roster Roadshow Monday 8th April Castletroy Hotel Limerick 11am, Rochestown Park Hotel Cork 7pm. All welcome and encouraged to attend #YourVoiceYourVote
The sentences should have been longer but at least these three men are where they belong tonight - behind bars. A male and female Garda viciously assaulted while trying to do their job. This can never be tolerated. @gardarep
I’ll NEVER watch World Heavyweight Boxing again… the WORST stitchup I’ve ever seen .. how can boxing recover? I suppose it helps if you have the Kinahans backing you up.. #shame#boxingfix#furyyoudisgrace
I did a story about the DMR south central task force going a few weeks ago.
From speaking to gardai all over the country, it’s clear that staff for Unit E will largely be taken from:
- local task forces/BRUs
- Community policing, or COMPOL. It seems to have been badly hit all over.
- local drugs units
- a bit of roads policing.
- also some members from the four units moved to E.
The Westamanstown roster, which necessitates a fifth unit (E), is due to start on November 6.
‘In the Dublin South region, bosses have now decided to disband the Burglary Response Unit and a Tallaght-based unit that deals only with domestic violence to help make up the new policing squad, known as Unit E’ https://t.co/55Y6tm3R3v
H/T to @political_dub for highlighting that the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland made strong comments in 2018 about the Westmanstown Roster (the one Commissioner Harris intends to reintroduce in 2018 and which is the biggest - but not only - cause of anger among @gardarep members). Here are some mentions...
