I remain mystified how strangling three children could be manslaughter rather than murder in the Clancy case. It is an effort to have the sentence drive the verdict. It is akin to the demand of the Queen of Hearts for “sentence first, verdict afterwards.”

Dr. Gregory Saathoff testified that Women & Infants Hospital offered Lindsay Clancy multiple mental-health treatment program options after she was not accepted into its postpartum program.

She said she would discuss those options with her doctors.

The nurse practitioner and Tufts records showed she never did.

That is not “no one offered her help.” In this instance, help was put directly in front of her — and she did not follow through.

Lindsay Clancy claims that she only heard “the voice” once - when it was time to kill her children.

This doctor claims, like the other psychologist witness, that hearing an imaginary voice only once is virtually unheard of for people in psychosis and that obeying the voice “is not curative of the voice.” And yet Clancy claims she’s never heard it again.

Also, he points out that Lindsay had spent time that week specifically planning *which* restaurant to send Patrick to and how far they were away.

The saddest part of this testimony is hearing him talk about a child’s natural will to survive. It’s very strong, he says. The children would have resisted. She kept going, carrying out her plan, even after Patrick called her in the middle of it.

This clearly wasn’t a moment of delusion. She meant what she did.
