Statement by the Premier of Greenland, Jens Frederik Nielsen:
January 4, 2026
“🇬🇱 Let me state this calmly and clearly from the outset: there is neither reason for panic nor for concern.
The image shared by Katie Miller, depicting Greenland wrapped in an American flag, changes nothing whatsoever. Our country is not for sale, and our future is not decided by social media posts.
That said, the image is disrespectful.
Relations between nations and peoples are built on mutual respect and international law — not on symbolic gestures that disregard our status and our rights.
We are a democratic society with self-government, free elections, and strong institutions. Our position is firmly grounded in international law and in internationally recognized agreements. This is not in question.
Naalakkersuisut (Government of Greenland) continues its work calmly and responsibly. We engage in dialogue, safeguard our interests, and uphold the international rules that also bind our partners.
There is no reason for panic.
But there is every reason to speak out against a lack of respect. 🇬🇱”
In 1979, Jackie Kennedy Onassis bought Red Gate Farm in Aquinnah on Martha’s Vineyard for just over one million dollars. The 340-acre property was filled with windswept dunes, salt-blasted heathlands, and quiet ponds. Jackie fell in love with the natural beauty immediately. She wanted a life close to nature. There would be no pool or tennis courts. She wanted to swim in the ocean, breathe fresh salt air, ride her bicycle to the lighthouse each morning, run on the beach at low tide, and read on her deck in the afternoon.
Her daughter Caroline later wrote that Jackie loved the old stone walls, the clay cliffs, and the blue heron that lived by the pond behind the dunes. Jackie raised her children there, and later Caroline raised hers. For three generations, the family created traditions on the property. They set lobster traps in Menemsha Pond, entered county fairs, grew vegetables, and collected seashells from the beach every day.
When Jackie passed away in 1994, she left Red Gate Farm to Caroline. In 2013, Caroline and her husband Edwin Schlossberg donated 30 acres along Moshup Trail to the Vineyard Conservation Society. The land was valued at 3.7 million dollars.
By 2019, Caroline’s children had grown up, and she decided it was time for them to explore new opportunities. She put Red Gate Farm on the market for 65 million dollars. The estate had a mile of private beach, rare coastal heathlands home to endangered species, and land considered one of the most important natural tracts in Massachusetts.
Instead of selling to the highest bidder, Caroline worked with the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank and the Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation. In December 2020, they bought 304 acres for 27 million dollars. In 2021, the Land Bank purchased another 32 acres for 10 million dollars. In total, 336 acres were preserved. The land became the Squibnocket Pond Reservation, open to the public forever.
The Kennedy family kept just 95 acres for their homes and memories. Caroline could have earned 65 million dollars by selling to a tech billionaire, but she chose preservation. She said the family wanted to be worthy stewards of this fragile habitat.
Thanks to her decision, the coastal heathlands, endangered arethusa orchids, northern harrier hawks, and blue herons will continue to thrive. Visitors can walk the same beaches where Jackie ran, climb the hills where Caroline raised her children, and experience the wild beauty of a place protected by one family for forty years.
Red Gate Farm is no longer private property. It belongs to everyone. Caroline Kennedy’s choice reminds us that sometimes the greatest wealth comes from giving something precious to the public rather than keeping it for profit.
I need your help with something.
On Saturday afternoon, @NBCLA, the NBC station in Los Angeles, aired a 30-minute propaganda advertisement for Scientology.
I happened to stumble upon it and was in shock when I realized what was airing.
Scientology has often bought 30-second and 1-minute TV ads (mostly on local television).
It is something I strongly object to, but allowing Scientology to buy a full 30-minute block of airtime is unacceptable.
Someone who knows nothing about Scientology and happened to watch this program would not realize that it was a paid advertisement and might reasonably assume it was programming produced or endorsed by NBC, which could lead them into Scientology.
The propaganda program centered around Dianetics, a pseudopsychological book written by L. Ron Hubbard that masquerades as a mental-health book but is, in reality, an entry point into Scientology — a dangerous, fascistic organization that seeks to destroy the lives of its members and their families.
Nothing about Dianetics or Scientology is helpful or rooted in science. Even critics and skeptics of psychology and psychiatry do not endorse Dianetics and Scientology.
For a major network to present this material in this way is deeply alarming. I understand that Scientology has been purchasing increasing amounts of advertising time across the country, but this crosses a line.
Please use the link below to contact @NBCLA to let them know what a serious mistake this was and urge them to never again allow Scientology to purchase a block of airtime like this.
And please like and repost this post so that more people can join us in reaching out to NBC LA.

Actually, the cities with the highest murder rates in America are all in Republican led states, yet Trump isn’t sending the National Guard into these cities:
1) Jackson, Mississippi - ~77.2 per 100K
2) Birmingham, Alabama - ~59 per 100K
3) St. Louis, Missouri - ~40 per 100K
4) Memphis, Tennessee - ~40 per 100K
5) New Orleans, Louisiana - ~40-50 per 100K
The murder rate in Chicago is ~21.4 per 100K. Los Angeles is ~8.4 per 100K.
It's all political theater.
@LADWP I reported this 6 months ago but nothing has been done. The glass dome is moving around a lot in the wind and is going to potentially hurt someone! This is at 1584 N. Beachwood Dr. please help
You know that scene in an action movie when the bad guy runs through the kitchen of a restaurant and pulls down all the pots and pans behind him to slow down his pursuers? We're in that part of the Trump presidency.
Society began to go wrong when schools stopped teaching cultural literacy. We need to expose kids to the best movies, the best music, the best art that has ever been made. Exposure to the arts elevates their often miserable circumstances, and makes a shared culture possible…
This is another way of saying that, per usual, Trump is making life and death decisions—ones that could destabilize the planet—on a whim, exhibiting the maturity of a child. It doesn't matter what your political affiliation is, we need serious people in office and he isn't one.
