i make bgm music, and I love manga and anime. if you like manga and anime feel free to dm me if you can’t dm me just @ me cos idk how to turn that function on
The lack of any tension between characters is one of my pet peeves with Frieren. Every interaction feels so dry like saying hello to your coworker, every person they meet they're just like
"Hello we're just passing through"
"Yeah we're just passing through too"
"Well take care🙂"
The State of Anime 2026 Address:
There is a battle within anime right now and there are two camps of thoughts.
1) There are the Japanese purist artists who believe that Anime should be Japanese stories, written by and for Japanese people, and from a Japanese perspective.
2) There are studio executives who believe anime should be more “Global and inclusive” and cater to international (Western) audiences and have a more universal perspective.
The first camp wants to keep the culture of anime for Japanese people. It wants to remain weird and quirky but have Japanese values.
The second camp wants to go broad and inclusive and secure Netflix money and create mass appeal products with globalist values.
The first is for art. The second is for sales.
Adding on to this, there is a huge problem with what are called “localizers” in anime.
What a localizer is, is someone who takes a literal translation of an anime, and changes the words ever so slightly to make it more (theoretically) relevant to the local audience that it’s exported to.
This matters because language matters. The localizer use subtle changes in language as a way to insert their own politics and beliefs into the translations. This is a serious problem because it not only changes the meaning of what the writers originally intended, but it turns the anime into a battlefield for activism. There are cases were localizer will literally completely change what a character says to suit their personal narrarives. This often against the knowledge or consent of the original creator.
Unfortunately, politics have found its way into anime. The above mentioned camps of thoughts, and the localizer problem, are all part of a broader political discussion about globalism versus localism within Japan and the Japanese culture. Anime has become a battlefield for this bigger discussion.
MAPPA, the anime studio QT’d below, has chosen the camp of Netflix-ization and Globalism. There are many other studios, animators, and industry workers who disagree with this.
This will continue to be a major issue moving forward. Especially as AI comes to both replace and aid studios in producing even more content.
Unfortunately there’s no escape from politics. Even in anime.
ngl i don't like it when people say "straight men like yuri, therefore yuri is catered to the male gaze & it's bad"
i don't think most yuri stories are aimed at straight men specifically, they're aimed at yuri fans, & straight men liking something doesn't void it of value either
@sadcat009@Treyv0n__ Do you think yaoi makes straight women uncomfortable? I strongly doubt it. With that being said why does it matter if it doesn’t make straight men uncomfortable?
@buratino168 To Love Ru is an Ecchi and the other two are harem shows. Being lewd is an intentional part of the first one and having a romantic relationship with a lot of female characters is an intentional part of the other two how does misogyny come in to play here
the people who spammed george floyd memes, celebrated trans teenagers committing suicide, pretended trump isn't a rapist pedophile, mocked the lawmaker who got assassinated, and laughed at children crying during ICE raids would like you to believe you're a bad person
@ih8teithere_@DudespostingWs I can agree that the one who does the asking out should pay but I also think significantly more women should start asking men out. Men are generalized as having poor communication skills for not wanting or being able to ask women out but what does that say about women then.
@ih8teithere_@DudespostingWs Do you think women expecting men to pay for dates is wrong too? Also how informed is this overall opinion of yours? How often do you actually interact with men for you to be able to confidently assert this as truth?
@warmanchild @BlackTantos I’m still trying to figure out ways to die. I don’t have any rope and stabbing myself with a knife is a significantly harder endeavor than I had anticipated. Trying to die feels like an uphill battle but my current situation is a downhill snowball that I can’t stop.
@ohfortheloveofg@HugintheCrow@NotFuji_ No I think it’s pretty appropriate. His entire point is that fictional characters are objects and real people are people. And people should learn to separate the two. Just because he drew a fictional character as an object doesn’t mean he views real women as objects.
