I live in Texas. Do you know what the mission of the Klu Klux Klan was? It was to expel people whose religion they deemed dangerous to American values. The KKK’s chief targets were Jews and Catholics.
In the 1920’s the KKK was big all over the country … not just the South. In Oregon. The KKK did not like blacks, but the anti-Catholic stuff was a top-level project for them.
We are taught this in school so that we can learn from our mistakes. Would the KKK be a good group if they just focused on Muslims? No. And all my life I have been interested in and read books about people who stood up to the KKK in 1920’s Texas. A lot of them were the few Republicans who were here.
Regarding Europe, one of my guilty pleasures is Ranier Warner Fassbinder movies - and he made some good ones about bigotry in 1970’s West Germany.
@Atlasus0@whoismrzero I understand. In the United States we have a greater religious tradition and we are tolerant of religions because it’s tied to freedom of speech. Here we can’t discriminate against someone because they believe gays are going to Hell.
@whoismrzero That’s site is still around? The only reason I know about DataLouge is because my crazy ex from San Antonio whiled away every day on there.
Let’s talk about people who are a bunch of bums… 😂
No. Making it “civil union” is like adding new genders. Marriage is marriage. It’s a civil right because it’s marriage. It’s in society’s interest to promote marriage. It’s an institution for good reasons.
Do you see how political conservatism is the answer here? Don’t suggest marriage is something less…. It is someone more!
@Atlasus0@whoismrzero Are you sure some of the homophobia in Die Schweiz ‘coming from inside the house’? I minored in German by the way - one of my high school buddies had family in Switzerland. We learned about Überfremdung in the 1930’s.
That’s cross-purposes with the idea of civil rights. In the Federalist Papers James Madison doesn’t say immigrants take away our rights. He says that mobs and factions take away our rights.
Critical Race Theory speaks more to your explanation here because CRT professors teach that certain groups use their power to oppress others because of their inherent nature.
(Hence the stupid phrase “check your privilege”). CRT is about making scapegoats and retribution for harms.
Our cultural heritage is because all of these very different people moved here. Do you believe the Germans who immigrated to Texas changed its cultural heritage? The Germans opposed slavery in Texas when it was a slave state … because their religion opposes it.
It’s always been this way.
@joshnaa2gez Homosexuals will always be a tiny minority of the population. Similar to Mormons or Jews. Normalizing? The concept is equality. Equal treatment is how we all have our rights.
