@MobiusDick I presume everything exists only physically—follows the invariant and universal laws of nature. This includes consciousness, which most likely is the cerebral EM field created by the brain. Yet “free will” needs more explaining!
@RyanHaecker Consciousness is a dynamic arrangement of EM forces which are constructed by neurons that are evolved to do this. Then the forces experience their own disposition and act purposefully back on the neurons.
@anchoredso37497 Is free will possible in a deterministic universe? Yes: consciousness can inhibit instinctive behavior until it develops a satisfactory plan of higher action. Then it releases behavior for the outcome it desires.
@luisbaram The modern synthesis of the theory of natural selection is the central theory of biology. It is so beautiful and powerful, I don’t understand why theists don’t claim it as a proof of God’s existence.

@Gitmo99@SusieM414141 How about carrying a .45 cal six shooter? First round is a warning shot in the ground. If the bear still advances after that then head shots.
@allegiantfaith Your subconscious mind can also call to you in anyone’s voice. It is so distinct and clear that you believe, for just that moment, that it really was that person!
@CherokeeOwl@nancy_hamm1 Some people only feel that human connection we all crave only when they cause pain and suffering. It’s as if they can transfer their own inner suffering to their victim.
@skdh Time does not exist physically except as a comparison of a pendulum’s motion with the motion or change of anything else. Our conscious awareness of time passing is an artifact of working memory.
@elonmusk Optimistically, any aliens that were technologically intelligent enough to contemplate interstellar travel would likely have destroyed themselves with nuclear weapons prior to visiting us. Hopefully, we won’t do likewise.
@BasedMikeLee This seems exactly right, but the problem is also that the corrupt politicians keep getting voted in by low-info voters who are promised free stuff. How do you fix that?
@DrFrankTurek The “soul” is just the old-time word for what today is called personality or personal consciousness. It was assumed to be the immortal thing in us. Of course, consciousness dies when the body dies.
@LensScientific Time is like color or sound—a construct of consciousness that does not exist as such in the physical world. It is what working memory feels like when we appreciate the changing quality of our thoughts.
@AleMartnezR1 All this makes perfect sense provided you ignore the state of the Earth just prior to the Proterozoic Eon, the laws of chemistry, etc., which can be reasonably incorporated in to a hypothesis on the origin of life.
