This suggests that domesticated plasmids in Pantoea arose from large ancestral plasmids that experienced genome streamlining, similar to that observed in endosymbionts.
By using phylogenetics, we show that most genes with homologs in both the plasmid and the chromosome have different evolutionary origins. Moreover, we identify related plasmids outside of the genus that are rather large.
Interested in #plasmid evolution? Don’t miss out our new preprint from @DaganLab ! We find that the genomes in the plant-associated #pantoea comprise two CHROMIDS (half CHROMosome, half plasMID). If you want to find out how these CHROMIDS evolved, click below 👇👇

Plants keep the mess of mitochondrial genome isoforms as intact as possible within meristems, the rest is somatic! Our @DaganLab @MarineEvolEcol manuscript is finally out! https://t.co/pPfCaNZY4I
Phylogenomic Testing of Root Hypotheses. Extremely happy to have this work out. We reformulate root inference in the framework of statistical hypothesis testing and outline an analytical procedure to test competing root positions for a group of species. https://t.co/n0Z2WUIt34
New preprint is out! How harmonic a plant mitochondrial genome can be once you get through the tricky genome assembly part. First time a worldwide population study of a plant mitogenome on the example of seagrass. @MarineEvolEcol @DaganLab @data_mar
...we suggest that the distribution of fitness effects depends on the replicon ploidy level -> Strategies for drug treatment of bacterial infections should take into consideration the pathogen ploidy level. Great modelling work by @MarioSanter and @HildegardUecker
