Shell Foundation is proud to partner with @GlobalPash and @FCDOGovUK, through the @TEAEnergyAccess platform to be part of the £6.15 million investment to accelerate electric vehicle adoption in Ghana led by @WeAreKofa.

The investment is for the expansion of the battery swapping network in #Ghana for the target deployment of 6,000 batteries and up to 100 swap stations across the country.

#ShellFoundation is providing a total commitment of £3.8 million, with co-funding by the UK Government through its Transforming Energy Access platform, to support Kofa's e-bike asset financing, research on the impact of Kofa’s multi-use battery technology, and operating expenses. 📣 Today, #ShellFoundation’s Business Development Director for Micro-entrepreneurs, Shveta Sarin, spoke on the panel “Powering the Future: Supporting Women’s Livelihoods Through Clean Energy Access.” The event officially launched the new report and pilot programme supported by Shell Foundation and @TEAEnergyAccess and developed by @CrossBoundary and @OdysseyEnergyS titled “Results Based Financing for Productive Use Appliances to Promote Gender Outcomes” which highlights the benefits of investing in women 📈. 

🔎 The progress in energy access across Sub-Saharan Africa—surpassing 50% in 2021 from 25% in 2000—opens opportunities, particularly for women, whose economic progress has been hindered by a gender pay gap of up to 30%. The study highlights that focusing on Income, Time, and Health as metrics to measure women's livelihood improvements can unlock significant economic value. 

⚡️By prioritising gender outcomes in energy programs, we can focus on the transformative potential for women's economic empowerment and the pivotal role of targeted initiatives and financing. In this light, the pilot program will explore gender-focused approaches in productive use of energy, the potential is clear, an estimated $189 million in result based financing could generate nearly $3 billion in economic value for 11 million women by 2030.

🤝 With support from @FCDOGovUK through the @TEAEnergyAccess platform, we are committed to supporting women’s livelihoods through clean energy in a significant way – with 50% of overall direct impact on women. With these types of market building incentives, such as result based financing programmes or initiatives like the Carbon Value Exchange (#CAVEX), are ways to increase focus on clean energy solutions targeted towards women’s livelihoods improvement.

At #ShellFoundation, we work with strategic partners, like @FCDOGovUK through the @TEAEnergyAccess platform, to deliver impactful, inclusive and just clean energy solutions to ensure that the #EnergyTransition works for everyone. 

Our Strategic Partnership Manager, Duncan Hart (@devdunc), presented on our TIME Project that: 

✅ Supports the clean energy transition by tackling market barriers & investing in pioneering enterprises, scaling them, creating jobs, leveraging finance and reducing carbon emissions
✅ Has made 116 funding interventions with over £895m of capital leveraged 
✅ Has improved the lives of over 22m people with improved access to clean energy.

In addition, our Head of Portfolio for Micro-entrepreneurs, Tanya Kothari, and our Business Development Director for Micro-entrepreneurs, Shveta Sarin, presented current examples of the work the Shell Foundation is doing within the TIME project.

This impact and the value of the Transforming Energy Access Platform cannot be understated. We are excited for ambitious plans and impact, specifically focusing on gender and inclusive solutions.
