A 13-year-old boy in Utah has just spent his ENTIRE SUMMER building a custom wheelchair for a 21-month-old baby girl he's never met.

His name is Zac Waters.

He watched a YouTube channel about 3D printing and decided he wanted to do something with it.

So he found MakeGood, a nonprofit that 3D prints assistive devices for people with disabilities, and got to work.

He spent over 300 HOURS, designing, printing, testing. and assembling.

...but he didn't just build a chair, he custom-designed it specifically for her

He custom printed pink accents, because pink is her favorite color.

He built her a removable cupholder and tray table. He designed a space in the back for heavier medical equipment.

He gave her soft, bendable straps so they don't dig into her, he even designed an adjustable footrest and headrest so it grows with her as she does.

When they asked him why he did it, he said it combines his two favorite things in life: 3D printing and helping people in need.

He's THIRTEEN YEARS OLD.

Tamil Nadu highways department to take over key city roads in Chennai for better maintenance.

Highways officials said the city roads need better link between interior roads and arterial roads, and the highways plans to create a uniform road quality. With a better funding, highways can speed up relaying compared to local bodies which are fund crunched.

The highways plans to introduce NHAI-styled performance based contract system for maintenance with short term, and long term maintenance. Contractors in future won’t just build roads but they will be held accountable to maintain them for 2 to 5 years period.

Further, highways taking over city roads will also cut off localised interference from politicians to relay roads unnecessarily for local events, VIP events, increasing road heights.

The take over is planned in key bus route roads of upto 400-km including key stretches like Kamarajar Salai, Sivananda Salai, GN Chetty Road, Venkatnarayana Road, Valluvarkottam Road, LB Road, Sardar Patel road among others.

Highways plans to create an online portal for road cuts with a 30-day permission window to complete the work, and fix the road.

Highways officials said chief minister C Joseph Vijay, who travelled in MTC buses recently, did not like the undulations. The highways minister issued directions to the highways secretary to take over the city roads for uniform quality, and a meeting between highways, transport secretaries along with GCC commissioner was held to finalise the plan.

I’ll give credit where credit is due. Today, I’ll say that Modi is India’s best Prime Minister ever because he truly does more than what is expected of him. Take the recently inaugurated Jewar airport in Noida. It was inaugurated just a few months ago, and now, after the rains, there’s a lake forming inside the airport.

The airport’s total estimated cost is around ₹30,000 crore, while the first phase alone, which was inaugurated, cost around ₹11,300 crore. But this lake comes completely free. So, clearly, this was a surprise gift for passengers from the Honourable Prime Minister. 😂

‘ஆயாராம், கயாராம்’ அரசியல் : ஒரு சாதாரண வாக்காளனின் பார்வையில்

முன்னாள் உயர்நீதிமன்ற நீதிபதி கே. சந்துரு அவர்களின் கருத்துகளுடன் வந்துள்ள இந்தக் கட்டுரை, நம்மைப் போன்ற சாதாரண மக்களும் யோசிக்க வேண்டிய ஒரு முக்கியமான விஷயத்தைப் பேசுகிறது.

நாம் ஒரு சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினரைத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கும்போது, அவரை மட்டும் பார்த்து வாக்களிப்பதில்லை. அவர் நிற்கும் கட்சி, கட்சியின் சின்னம், கொள்கை, தலைமை, தேர்தல் வாக்குறுதிகள் எல்லாவற்றையும் பார்த்துத்தான் வாக்களிக்கிறோம். அப்படி ஒரு கட்சியின் சார்பில் வெற்றி பெற்றவர், தேர்தல் முடிந்தவுடன் அந்தக் கட்சியை விட்டுவிட்டு வேறு கட்சியில் சேர்ந்தால், “அப்படியென்றால் நாங்கள் போட்ட ஓட்டு யாருக்காக?” என்ற கேள்வி நிச்சயமாக நமக்கு வரும்.

இந்தக் கட்டுரையில் நீதிபதி சந்துரு அவர்கள் சட்டம் என்ன சொல்கிறது, அரசியல் அறம் என்ன சொல்கிறது என்பதைத் தெளிவாகப் பிரித்துக் காட்டுகிறார். சட்டப்படி ஒரு MLA தனது பதவியை ராஜினாமா செய்துவிட்டு வேறு கட்சியில் சேருவதற்கு சில சூழ்நிலைகளில் தடையில்லாமல் இருக்கலாம். ஆனால் சட்டப்படி சரி என்பதாலே அது மக்களின் பார்வையிலும் சரியாகிவிடுமா? என்பதுதான் முக்கியமான கேள்வி.

ஒரு MLA-வை ஒரு கட்சியின் வேட்பாளராக நம்பி மக்கள் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கிறார்கள். அவர் அந்தக் கட்சியை விட்டு வெளியேறும்போது, மக்களின் நம்பிக்கையும் அவருடன் சேர்ந்து வெளியேறிவிடுகிறதா? என்ற கேள்வி எழுகிறது.

கட்சித் தாவலைத் தடுக்கத்தான் Anti-Defection Law கொண்டு வரப்பட்டது. ஆனால் அந்தச் சட்டத்திலும் பல வழிகள் இருக்கின்றன. ஒருவர் பதவியை ராஜினாமா செய்துவிட்டு வேறு கட்சியில் சேர்ந்தால், அதை எப்படிக் கட்சித் தாவல் என்று சட்டப்படி பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்பதில் சிக்கல்கள் இருக்கின்றன. இதனால் சட்டம் இருக்கிறது; ஆனால் அதன் நோக்கம் முழுமையாக நிறைவேறுகிறதா என்ற சந்தேகம் வருகிறது.

இந்தப் பிரச்சினை இன்றைக்கு மட்டும் வந்தது அல்ல என்பதையும் கட்டுரை நினைவுபடுத்துகிறது. பல ஆண்டுகளாகவே ஆட்சி அமைப்பதற்காகவும், ஆட்சியைக் கவிழ்ப்பதற்காகவும் அரசியல்வாதிகள் கட்சி மாறியிருக்கிறார்கள். அதனால்தான் “ஆயா ராம், கயா ராம்” என்ற சொல் அரசியலில் இவ்வளவு பிரபலமானது.

ஆனால் ஒரு சாதாரண வாக்காளனாக எனக்குத் தோன்றுவது ஒன்றுதான்:

நாங்கள் ஒரு கட்சியை நம்பி ஓட்டு போட்டு ஒருவரை வெற்றி பெறச் செய்கிறோம். அவர் அந்தக் கட்சியை விட்டுவிட்டு வேறு கட்சிக்குச் செல்ல விரும்பினால், மீண்டும் எங்களிடம் வந்து ஓட்டு கேட்பதுதானே சரியான ஜனநாயகம்?

மக்கள் அவரை மீண்டும் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தால், அவர் புதிய கட்சியின் சார்பில் செயல்படுவதற்கு யாரும் கேள்வி கேட்க முடியாது. ஏனென்றால் அப்போது மக்களே அவருக்கு புதிய ஆணை கொடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

இந்தக் கட்டுரையில் எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்த விஷயம், இது ஒரு கட்சியை மட்டும் குறை சொல்லவில்லை. இந்தப் பிரச்சினை எல்லாக் காலத்திலும், பல கட்சிகளிலும் இருந்திருக்கிறது என்பதைச் சொல்கிறது. அதனால் இது ஒரு கட்சியின் பிரச்சினை அல்ல; ஜனநாயகத்தின் பிரச்சினை.

அதே நேரத்தில், அரசியல்வாதிகளை மட்டும் குறை சொல்லியும் பயனில்லை. உண்மையிலேயே இந்த நடைமுறை தவறு என்று நினைத்தால், சட்டத்தையே மாற்ற வேண்டும். சட்டத்தில் இருக்கும் ஓட்டைகளை அடைக்க வேண்டும்.

இறுதியில், இந்தக் கட்டுரை நம்மிடம் ஒரு முக்கியமான கேள்வியை விட்டுச் செல்கிறது:

“ஒரு MLA கட்சியை மாற்றலாம். ஆனால் அவர் வெற்றி பெற்றபோது மக்கள் கொடுத்த ஆணையை மட்டும் அப்படியே எடுத்துக்கொண்டு வேறு கட்சிக்குச் செல்லலாமா?”

இது சட்டத்தைவிட பெரிய கேள்வி.
இது மக்களின் நம்பிக்கை பற்றிய கேள்வி.
அதனால்தான் இந்தக் கட்டுரை ஒரு சாதாரண வாக்காளனையும் சிந்திக்க வைக்கிறது.

Three days after a group clash, Tenkasi’s Alangulam police registered a suo motu case against seven youths who allegedly rioted & damaged each other’s cars, creating panic among public. Two accused are sons of a theatre owner & cousins of #TVK district secretary. Their father is also a Makkal Neethi Maiam functionary. Of the seven accused, three were arrested, and four on the run.

Most of the accused were allegedly intoxicated during the clash, which was triggered by an argument over not giving way while overtaking. The SP intervened & ordered registration of the suo motu case after both groups claimed they had reached a consensus. Cars of both groups were seized.

The President has assented to the #VandeMataram Amendment, passed without discussion in Parliament, which requires the singing of the National Song in full at the start and ending of any official function, in addition to the National Anthem.
As one who greatly respects both, and can sing the first two stanzas of the former (but not the other four, which were never required till now) as well as the entire anthem, i would like to point to just one practical consideration our zealots appear to have overlooked: human nature.
"Jana Gana Mana" requires audiences to stand respectfully and focus their attention for a reasonable 52 seconds. The National Song in full takes 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Tamil Nadu has just decided that both will be preceded by the State Song in Tamil for another 2 minutes. Do we really expect audiences to stand still and respectfully for six minutes before and after every function, a total of 12 extra minutes? Can respect and patience be legislated?
I fear that the intent of the Bill, to promote greater respect for the National Song , will not be achieved, but its opposite may well be....
