THE CHILDREN WE FORGOT: WHY THEY DESERVE MORE* Six children. Standing barefoot on dry ground. Bodies covered in dust. No fancy clothes, no toys, no school bags. Just themselves and that beautiful, innocent smile. These are the children society calls "ghetto children." The ones we drive past. The ones we forget. But look again. Do you see poverty? I see wealth. I see joy that hasn't been bought. I see resilience. I see children who have learned to find happiness in small things — a splash of water, the touch of a friend, a moment to laugh. *Why do they deserve more in our society today?* *1. Because their innocence is not a crime.* They did not choose where to be born. They did not choose to be born without clean water, without good schools, without hospitals. They are innocent, but society punishes them for being poor. *2. Because they are rich in what we have lost.* We have phones, cars, money... but we have lost the ability to smile with nothing. These children remind us what humanity looks like. They deserve more because they still hold the purity our world needs. *3. Because talent lives here too.* In this group, there could be a doctor, a future president, an engineer, a teacher. But without education, without food, without protection, that talent will die in the bush. How many dreams have we buried because we refused to invest in children like these? *4. Because our future depends on them.* A society that abandons its children abandons its future. If we leave them in the street, we are building crime, pain, and poverty for tomorrow. If we lift them, we are building a better Nigeria, a better Africa. *5. Because they deserve dignity, not pity.* They don't just need your leftover clothes. They deserve clean water to bathe properly. They deserve school. They deserve food that will make their stomachs full. They deserve to be seen as children — not as "ghetto children" — but as OUR children. I look at this picture and I see my mother. She taught me that if you have one cup of rice, you share half. That is why I will not stop fighting for them. These children don’t need much to smile. Imagine what they could do if we actually gave them MORE.
