🏛 The central government can increase the insurance cover provided under the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation Act (DICGC). According to the Finance Ministry official, it can be increased from Rs 5 lakh. Under DICGC, in case of closure or sinking of the bank, the amount of up to Rs 5 lakh of the customers will be safe. Depositors get this amount within 90 days.

Currently, the government provides insurance of only Rs 5 lakh.

▶️ The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has made some changes regarding the rules of toll tax and FASTag. The purpose of these changes is to make toll tax collection easier and improve traffic movement at toll booths. These rules will come into effect from tomorrow, February 17, 2025. Every driver should be aware of these rules, so that they do not have to pay penalty or double tax.

☑️ In terms of market capitalization, the market cap of 8 of the 10 largest companies in the country has decreased by Rs 2.04 lakh crore in the last week's trading. During this period, the country's most valuable company Reliance Industries was the top loser. The company's market cap has fallen by Rs 67,527 crore to Rs 16.47 lakh crore.

Apart from this, the value of companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HDFC Bank, ITC and Infosys has also fallen. Whereas, the value of telecom company Bharti Airtel has increased by Rs 22,426 crore to Rs 9.79 lakh crore and the value of ICICI Bank has increased by Rs 1,183 crore to Rs 8.89 lakh crore.

In January 2025, an investment of Rs 39,687 crore has been made in equity mutual funds, which is 3.6% less than in December 2024. In the month of December, an investment of Rs 41,155.9 crore was made in equity mutual funds.

According to the data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), the total asset under management (AUM) of mutual funds has increased from Rs 66.93 lakh crore to Rs 67.25 lakh crore in January. A total net inflow of Rs 1.88 lakh crore has come in all types of mutual fund schemes.

Retail inflation has come down to a 5-month low of 4.31% in January due to cheaper food items. Inflation was at 3.65% in August. Earlier, inflation was 5.22% in December. Today, i.e. on February 12, the government released the retail inflation figures.

Food items contribute about 50% to the inflation basket. Its inflation has come down from 8.39% to 6.02% on a month-on-month basis. Whereas rural inflation has come down from 5.76% to 4.64% and urban inflation has come down from 4.58% to 3.87%.

The deal between Japanese auto maker Nissan and Honda will no longer happen. Both companies have decided not to take it forward. On December 23 last year, Honda and Nissan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the merger.

If this deal had happened, the two would have formed a group worth $60 billion (current value - about Rs 5.21 lakh crore). Which would have been the fourth largest group in the world in terms of vehicle sales after Toyota, Volkswagen and Hyundai.
