Thats not true. training a frontier model costs $70-100 M. The other billions is for inference which you will need only if you have users using it. And if you have users, investors will follow.
By comparison the Statue of Unity cost $300M. And getting billions in funding isnt that big a challenge- indian startups receive anywhere from $10 B to $40 B in funding annually. The problem is that we have no research to speak of in the country. The government never spent on it and therefore it doesn’t attract the best and brightest.
NEW: Earlier this year, an obscure startup in Texas announced that it had received at least $100 mil from one of the richest men in Asia.
We dug into the backstory. We discovered a saga involving Donald Trump Jr., Russian oil, and an Indian billionaire family’s private zoo.
In 2014 only 12% of indians had smartphones. So yeah no UPI. Btw UPI was conceptualized in 2012. As for EV, other than Reva there were no EVs in India in 2014. For comparison Tesla’s first mass produced car - the Model S- was launched only in mid 2012. By that logic, there were zero phones, zero UPI, zero EV charging stations during Nehru’s time
Yes new airports were built but most of these are not commercially operational. infact of the 663 new routes that were started as part of UDAN, only 57 are still operational. These airports were built so taxpayer money can flow into the pockets of corporates particularly Adani. But you know what, how many airports did the mughals build? Wah Modiji Wah
How effing stupid these bhakts are! In the day and age of chatgpt!
I welcome Gen AI features in existing software.
But I cannot, for the love of God, find a single major tech company doing it right.
Today’s offender: Spotify.
They’re launching AI features to let users “remix music with AI.” If I wanted to listen to shitty remixes, I’d just listen to Tanishk Bagchi, Neha Kakkar, or Baadshah. This should be declared a crime against humanity.
But that’s not even what got me. This is what got me.
Spotify has an MCP server. So I tried to do something simple: generate a playlist in Claude and push it to Spotify.
Can’t do it.
The Spotify MCP’s create_playlist tool only lets Claude pass a prompt to Spotify’s own AI, which then generates the playlist itself. That’s it. That’s the whole tool.
So what exactly is the point?
I can open the Spotify app and type a prompt directly. I don’t need an MCP for that. MCPs exist so external tools can read, write, and act on your data. They are not a message-passing wrapper for a competing AI.
The whole value of using Claude here is: Claude generates, Spotify stores. That’s the workflow. What Spotify built is: you type, Spotify AI generates, Claude is a middleman that adds zero value.
I’m not even sure what Spotify gains. I’ll be listening on Spotify either way. What difference does it make whose AI assembled the playlist?
The only explanation I can think of: this is a data play. Spotify wants your prompts, your taste signals, your natural language intent – running through their model, not someone else’s. That’s what they’re protecting.
Which is fine, I guess. But call it what it is. Don’t ship it as an “integration.”
@scarycath Dear lady. You got the 15 sec of fame you secretly wanted posting about a hugely popular show on a public platform. Lets not pretend you aren’t enjoying it. Enjoy while it lasts and stop dragging it out.
@GurorangriPadme What are these efforts? pray tell me. more importantly, how are these efforts panning out? most of these efforts are good intentions with a marketing campaign. But I will be happy to be corrected. As long as you bring data.
switched from my 16 inch m1 pro macbook pro to a 13 inch m4 macbook air last year. I wanted a light and small laptop. But now the 16 ram and m4 processor is proving to be inadequate for running agents and coding and running web and mcp servers on my laptop. need a mac studio now
uninstalling @SparkMailApp by all means put in all the ai features you want. but why on earth when i open an email, there is absolutely no way to know which of my email accounts that email was sent to. this is so asinine.
@harshmadhusudan Two things can be true at the same time. There is growing racism towards indians globally and no matter how nicely we behave, some people will hate us. But we are also not the best of tourists and our behavior and decorum abroad could be better.
I was at Dubai airport boarding flight to bangalore. International flights strictly follow boarding groups and the boarding group is prominently written in your boarding pass. The crew called out boarding group but everyone crowded the entry. You had to jostle other passengers to get in line for your boarding group. all indians. The crew repeatedly kept asking people to follow boarding group discipline but no one would listen. Why? its not the flight would without you. And its not like the crew would let you get in out of turn before your boarding group.
