Dhavan: This Act is at the teeth of a large number of Constitution bench decisions...it is in the teeth of a number. Now lordship interpreted in TMA Pai the meaning of "established", the phrase is establish and administer. I have the right to establish and a right to administer. It is stated way back in 1954. No legislature can ever take them away.
Dhavan: A redefinition of a religious property, it has never happened....what was the occasion for this large scale liquidation of the very concept of waqf. No religion can survive apart from belief, practice and property. You take that away, no religion can survive.
Big blow to the Modi govt by the Supreme Court on Waqf Issue.
No non muslim member as of now and no de notification of waqf by user property till further orders.
I’d like to thank all the lawyers representing the issue and especially my counsel Mr. Varun Dev Mishra. @devvarun

In nearly 40 years of rage shootings fueled by soaring inequality, in a culture where so many arm themselves in the belief guns give them political power, it’s always surprised me no one’s ever gone after the oligarchs
People are spending money on:
1) Water tankers
2) Air Purifiers
3) Expensive housing in private societies (so that they get a place to walk/play-area for kids)
4) Private vehicles ( 28% GST on cars)
5) High education cost in private schools
In short: they are solving their own problems.
Yet, the taxes are high.
Thread with the coverage of the electoral bonds case on the ICLP blog over the years:

Justice Kaul in the Epilogue to his judgment in the #Article370Verdict has recommended setting up a Truth and Reconciliation Commission for J&K, similar to the one in S. Africa after apartheid. I discuss the TRC in https://t.co/Y7eTPxezn0, its purpose and the results it achieved.
Interesting points to note:
1. The TRC was first mooted to discuss the barbaric acts of the African National Congress cadre during their liberation movement, and not the apartheid regime. However, later the TRC investigated the violations committed by both ANC and the apartheid government.
2. The spirit of TRC was reconciliation and not punishment. The perpetrators could come forward, confess to their crimes and receive amnesty for their actions. Interestingly, an individual who bombed Pretoria and blinded a man, was forgiven by the victim and also granted amnesty.
3. TRC was successful because its purpose was to heal wounds, promote harmony and not engage in prosecution or hate mongering.
4. TRC was arguably inspired by Gandhi Ji's vision and faith in truth.
