@LI_politico It's also been a shit year for me. My oldest, best, friend died suddenly at the end of February. Then a couple of other old friends succumbed. Then my Mum died suddenly–in my arms–six weeks ago. I'm struggling so know how much we need a win.
@RichardHills_@AklTransport A slip between Newmarket and Parnell. It's been evident for years that the geology there is liable to movement. KiwiRail have made some evidently ineffectual attempts to deal with it during the many line closures we've had recently. But, hey, it's not much of a freight issue.
@AT_TravelAlerts@2covet Not exactly unanticipated. KiwiRail have had a couple of blokes working on site during the periodical weekend line closures for a couple of months now.
@GrumpyYetAmusin There used to be a lot along the Esplanade in Southend-on-Sea in Essex. Recall being amazed aged 5 and fresh from Aotearoa watching them wrapped in hessian for winter in 1962.
@five15design Bit above his pay grade, no? NZD Eleventy billion only comes to about £5.5 billion. Probably needs to charge @waikato a bit more than NZD900,000 to secure external consultancy rights.
@TheGradyConnell Yes, it also used to depart Auckland from a real railway station; it now departs from a couple of converted shipping containers. Progress KiwiRail style.
@spil030@GeoffreyKeey No such thing as Auckland Boys. It is as Henry Cooper (ex-headmaster) pronounced in 1972 The Auckland Grammar School' By 19th century standards the schools was progressive. It even taught sciences and women, my grandmother among them, across the road in the crypt of St Paul's.
@CMRanapia What a shit school. I went there; as did numerous uncles, my grandfather and my grandmother (!). My gt grandfather, Sir Algernon Thomas was chairman of the board (1917-37). He'd be appalled at the reactionary petri dish it's become.
@CMRanapia It's the institutional outing of boys worrying about their sexuality that's seriously concerning here. And you know those who do id as gay will have their lives made absolute hell at AGS.
@themblogger31 Turning point yes, but not between progress and regression but ignorant, deceitful, christofascism and a sort-of steady-as-she-goes, status quo, centralism. There's not much progressivism in the current Labour party playbook.
