Fractal Geometry of DNA

The 6 billion bits of information that comprise the DNA in our cells is approximately 6 feet long. This 6 feet of DNA in each of our cells is folded up and compacted into a microscopically-sized nucleus. If all of the DNA in our entire body was unwound and connected end-to-end, it would stretch 34 billion miles, or 1.4 million times around the earth!

Amazingly, this DNA doesn’t get tangled or knotted up. This is especially amazing considering that all of the DNA must be unwound, copied, pulled apart, and re-compacted each time the cell divides.

As impossible as this sounds, researchers have discovered the mechanisms that allow this to happen.

First, the DNA is wrapped around perfectly shaped histone protein particles. These histone particles are then coiled up into helically shaped fibers, which are then folded and compacted into a special shape.

Scientists found that the overall folding pattern is based on the geometric principles of a “fractal globule” (lower part of the image). The other option for this geometric arrangement is called an “equilibrium globule” (upper part of the image).

An equilibrium globule would result in a high degree of tangling. A fractal globule is based on a principle in mathematics governed by fractal geometry. This type of geometry is based on shapes that repeat themselves at different length scales.

This folding pattern allows the nucleus of each cell to possess an information density that is trillions of times higher than modern microchips.

By copying these principles, more efficient methods of compacting fibers can be developed that increase density and that eliminate tangling.

The most terrifying detail about Noah's Ark isn't the size of the flood. It is the design of the boat.

If you look closely at the blueprints God gave Noah in Genesis 6, He was extremely specific.

He gave the exact length, width, and height. He specified the type of wood and the pitch to seal it.

In my little years, I have never thought of this, but God intentionally left out one crucial component. There was no steering wheel, no sail, and worse still, there was no engine.
