Corporations are now using the “labor shortage” as an excuse to bring back child labor.
It’s part of a horrifying trend: Since 2015, child labor violations have risen nearly 300%.
Are corporate profits really more important than the safety of children?
@amuse Assuming this is a teacher confiscating a student’s phone for improper use, this could have been handled better. The teacher could have given the choice of turning her phone over or having the office escort her out of the classroom. It is unwise to back students into corner.
@howie_hua I think the argument for (re)teaching long division is that it requires so many different skills to complete. This method preserves those skills, but emphasizes a number sense aspect that is absent in the standard algorithm. I like it!
@meganbodnar@howie_hua That makes sense. However, while the standard algorithm is efficient, it robs kids of number sense. Perhaps with teaching methods like this we can foster a greater sense of the actual numbers and more kids will be able to divide polynomials by switching to the Standard algorithm.
