Main Street Summit is a collection of business owners, operators, and investors.
It is also a collection of some of the best humans on the planet.
5 things I learned from my time there:
1) The American Dream
No matter what the media tells you, the American Dream is alive and well.
You can put in the work, build something meaningful, and reap the benefits.
2) People Over Everything
You need the right people.
That is a combination of your support system, clients, and team to build an enduring business.
3) You Didn't Sign Up for Easy
Do not believe the lie you see on social media that business ownership is easy. It is not.
Unless you are committed to doing the work most will not, don't sign up.
4) Power of Social Media
Some of my best relationships have come from sharing on social media.
In a world, where we tend to focus on the negatives there are immense positives when done the right way.
5) You Can Do It
We are a product of our environment. If an environment of entrepreneurial people teaches you anything, it is that everyone puts their pants on the same way.
There are no special superpowers to build enduring companies. It is a combination of vision, grit, failure, people, and time.
Restating a thought from @morganhousel ~ Everyone who is great at something has simply been doing it for a long time.
@BrentBeshore, @markbrooks, and the entire team have put on a first class event.
Your actions speak louder than words.
My kids hear me most days but they see my actions every day.
One of my main focuses is improving my health ~ I walk outside almost every single day.
Rain, shine, cold, hot ~ chances are I will be walking for 45 minutes or more.
It has helped me stay in shape, come up with my best business ideas, and give me time to decompress.
Yet, yesterday it gave me one of my best benefits ~ 45 minutes uninterrupted with my two oldest kids.
A habit (walking) that has had a massive impact on my life is now something my kids want to do with me.
I didn't ask them to go on a walk, instead, I showed them an action every day.
We saw a few animals.
We swapped school stories.
We went through fun what if scenarios.
If you want to make an impact on the people around you, stop telling them and start showing them.
Have a great Sunday my friends.
200 wins, 3-time All-Star, 2 Gold Glove Awards, World Series champion, 2020 Roberto Clemente Award winner, and 18 years in a Cardinals uniform – more than any pitcher in franchise history.
Thank you for the memories, Adam Wainwright!
They cut @MikeTrout.
The greatest baseball player of our generation.
The story you have never heard and the lesson to learn:
Back in 2008, I was a high school junior.
I was an up-and-coming baseball player and my first big break was an invitation to the USA baseball team trials.
You see each year USA Baseball brings in 100+ of the best baseball players in the country to try out for the 18u national team.
That year, USA Baseball had arranged for two players each to stay with a host family.
My roommate was a player named, Mike Trout.
Mike had incredible athleticism but was from the Northeast so he didn't come into the event on the "hype train" like some of the top prospects from California, Texas, and Florida did.
We both performed well at the event and made it to the final stage of the trials.
Here USA Baseball chose the final 18 players for the national team.
Mike didn't make those final 18 players.
Fast forward 15 years and Mike is the best player of a generation. A surefire Hall of Famer and arguably one of the greatest baseball players of all time.
Funny, how life works sometimes.
Look the lesson we can all learn from this is life is full of things that are outside of our control.
You will be told no.
You will suffer adversity.
You will face disappointment.
Accept it as part of your journey.
My friends, we focus far too much on the end destination and completely miss the beauty in the journey.
The come up, the adversity, and the struggle are what you will talk about one day.
It makes the destination worth striving for.
So, the next time you face a setback, remember Mike's story.
I have worked with 100's of Millionaires.
What you have been told about becoming a millionaire is all wrong.

@TrevRosenthal Super cool! Going to be fun learning about the uniqueness of each pen from the player’s perspective. I’d have to imagine it’ll even impact the feeling you get when coming into the game as well!
