Today the future USS Harvey C. Barnum, Jr. (DDG 124) was christened on our drydock. Attending was the ship’s namesake, Medal of Honor recipient Col. Harvey Barnum, Jr. His wife & ship’s sponsor, Martha Hill, performed the bottle break. We proclaimed the ship’s motto: CHARGE ON!

Carl M. Levin (DDG 120) returned from Acceptance Trials flying 3 brooms signaling clean sweeps of performance tests. BIW President Chuck Krugh stated: “The only thing more powerful than a person with a can-do attitude is a team with a can-do attitude. This team made it happen!”

February is #CTEMonth and we’d like to spotlight the value of Career and Technical Education in Maine and BIW. Many of the skills students learn at CTE schools are applicable to our shipyard and graduates play an important part in both Maine’s industries and our Bath-built legacy

Today, Maine @SenAngusKing hosted Montana @SenatorTester, chairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, during a tour of GDBIW. Tester said the visit gave him a sense of the teamwork it takes to build U.S Navy warships and the shipyard’s importance to the national defense.

This #MemorialDay, we remember the servicemen and women who died serving our country. Many of the ships built at BIW carry the names of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, including USS Rafael Peralta, USS Michael Murphy, USS Jason Dunham and the future USS John Basilone.

This week we presented certificates of appreciation to area restaurants who have made over 150,000 lunches for shipbuilders at our main yard in Bath and at our Brunswick facilities. It’s no easy feat to feed our shipyard, but these restaurants really pulled through. Thank you!
