Peaceful Primaries in Idemili North & South Marred by Violence from Eric Anyaneme, as Massive Crowds Endorse Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo
The primary elections for the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, held today at Ogidi (Idemili North) and Ojoto (Idemili South), were initially characterized by a peaceful and impressive display of democracy. The great, loving people of Idemili, old and young, men and women, and energetic youths came out en masse to show overwhelming support for Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, who is seeking to be returned to the House of Representatives.
The exercise was progressing smoothly when unfortunately, one of the contestants, Mr. Eric Anyaneme, arrived at the Ojoto venue (Idemili South) with truckloads of thugs and armed men in an attempt to disrupt the process. However, he was vehemently resisted by the youths, men, and women of Idemili South, who bravely chased them away. In the ensuing chaos, his thugs resorted to shooting at ordinary indigenes who had gathered to stand with Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo.
After being chased out of the Idemili South venue, Mr. Anyaneme proceeded to the Idemili North venue in Ogidi. There, he saw that the good people of Idemili North were standing in line peacefully to support Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo. In response, he allegedly ordered his thugs to start shooting indiscriminately in an effort to scatter the venue. Despite this disruption, we are pleased to report that the electoral officers remained resolute and were able to complete their duties effectively.
A Call to the Party (NDC)
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) must not allow the likes of Eric Anyaneme to be part of its goal of making Nigeria better. Through his actions today, he has clearly showcased that he is a thug who does not abide by the rule of law. Allowing such behavior to stand would undermine the party’s efforts to promote order and democracy.

Tonight in Abuja, I joined fellow aspirants, party leaders and critical stakeholders at the ongoing NDC Aspirants Dinner, a gathering that has continued to spark meaningful conversations about the future of Nigeria and the direction of our democracy ahead of 2027.
Beyond the atmosphere of camaraderie and political engagement, the event provided an important opportunity for interaction, consultation and the strengthening of alliances within our great party. It was inspiring to witness the growing unity, confidence and shared determination among members of the NDC, all driven by a collective desire to reposition Nigeria and restore hope to our people.
I had the privilege of engaging with party faithful and stakeholders on the urgent need for people-oriented leadership, responsible governance and a political movement that truly reflects the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians. For me, these conversations remain deeply important because leadership must always be centered on service, inclusion and measurable impact on the lives of the people.
One thing that stood out clearly tonight was the positive energy across the gathering and the visible confidence radiating from our leaders, especially Peter Obi. His cheerful disposition and calm optimism further reinforced the belief that a new Nigeria is indeed POssible.
As we continue this journey towards 2027, moments like this remind us that political movements are not built merely through speeches, but through shared conviction, strategic unity, sacrifice and the courage to stand firmly for national transformation.
The conversations are growing stronger.
The movement is expanding.
And the hope for a better Nigeria remains alive.

Today, I officially purchased the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Expression of Interest Form as I declare my intention to seek re-election to continue serving the good people of Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
My decision to seek another mandate is deeply rooted in the need for continuity, consolidation of achievements, and sustainable development across our constituency. Over the years, we have worked tirelessly to give Idemili quality representation through impactful legislation, constituency development, and people-oriented leadership.
As your representative, I have sponsored about 15 bills, including major infrastructure-related bills aimed at improving the welfare of our people and attracting development to our constituency. Beyond legislation, several developmental projects are currently ongoing across different communities in Idemili North and South, many of which require continuity to ensure their successful completion and expansion.
I strongly believe that this is not the time to abandon progress midway. Rather, it is a time to consolidate on the gains we have already made together. With experience already gained at the National Assembly, my return as a ranking member will position Idemili for greater opportunities, stronger representation, increased influence, and more democratic dividends from the federal government.
It is also important to note that the existing zoning arrangement still favors Idemili South, and I remain committed to using this opportunity to further advance the collective interest of our people.
This re-election bid is beyond politics; it is a movement for continuity, progress, and sustainable development. I therefore call on my supporters, associates, stakeholders, and the entire people of Idemili North and South to continue supporting this shared vision by keying into the Obi/Kwankwaso with Uchechukwu 2027 (OKU Movement).
Together, we will continue to build a stronger, more united, and more developed Idemili.

I joined my leader and mentor, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, His Excellency Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, stakeholders, and thousands of committed Nigerians today at the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) National Congress 2026 held at Angeles Event Centre and Mall, Abuja.
The atmosphere was peaceful, marked by a massive turnout of committed Nigerians yearning for a new Nigeria. I witnessed firsthand the unity of purpose as key political figures converged, exchanged ideas, and reinforced a shared commitment to national transformation.
As a lawmaker who came from Idemili North and South, where zoning agreement is operational, and myself serving the turn of the South, which by the grace of God I will complete in 2031, I strongly commend the NDC leadership for zoning its presidential ticket to the South.
Furthermore, I commend the NDC National Working Committee led by the National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, and National Leader, His Excellency Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, for organizing one of the best national conventions in recent times.
Being part of this historic gathering has further strengthened my resolve to continue working with like-minded leaders to build a nation anchored on good governance, accountability, and people-oriented development.
Obi/Kwankwaso with Uchechukwu 2027 (OKU Movement 2027) remains well positioned for impact come the 2027 general elections.

Mr. Peter Obi Not Desperate to be President – Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo
Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, during an interview on Channels Television, reacted to claims that Mr. Peter Obi’s movement from one political party to another was an indication of weak leadership and inability to resolve internal party crises. Responding to the question, Hon. Okonkwo strongly disagreed with the speculation, stressing that Mr. Peter Obi is not desperate to become President of Nigeria, but rather desperate to see Nigeria work for the benefit of every citizen.
Hon. Okonkwo stated that Mr. Obi’s passion has always been centered on building a better Nigeria where equal opportunities exist for all, regardless of background or connections. According to him, Mr. Obi believes in creating a nation where “the son of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” adding that his political ideology is driven by competence, fairness, accountability, and national development rather than personal ambition.
Speaking further, Hon. Okonkwo noted that Nigerians should not expect Mr. Obi to continue practicing the same old political methods associated with the traditional system while hoping for a different result. He maintained that Mr. Obi represents a fresh ideology and a new direction for Nigeria’s politics, emphasizing that he and many others firmly stand with him and will continue to support him to the very end.

NDC was Not Last Minute Decision, It has been part of the Consideration — Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo
Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo has clarified that the decision to join the NDC was not a last-minute move, but rather a well-thought-out process that had been under consideration for a long time. Speaking during an interview, the federal lawmaker explained that the party had always been among the options carefully reviewed by opposition forces before arriving at their final decision.
According to Hon. Uchenna Harris, their major focus during the consultations was to identify a political platform that is stable, peaceful, and free from persistent internal crises and leadership tussles. He noted that after carefully understudying different political parties, they became convinced that the NDC provides a conducive environment for progressive politics and effective political participation.
He further stressed that the decision was driven by the desire to operate within a party structure that encourages unity, collaboration, and growth, adding that internal conflicts in political parties often hinder productivity and distract leaders from delivering good governance to the people. He maintained that their movement to the NDC was based on deep consultations, strategic considerations, and the collective interest of their supporters and constituents.

The federal lawmaker stated that Mr. Obi is a leader and mentor to him, stressing that their political relationship is built on trust, shared ideals, and a common vision for Nigeria.
Hon. Okonkwo further explained that the recent political decisions were not taken in isolation, noting that there were wide-ranging consultations before any movement was made. Yesterday, I had the honour of attending the NAFDAC Conference themed “Safeguarding the Nation’s Health, Empowering Progress” in my capacity as the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on NAFDAC, at the National Assembly.
The conference provided a critical platform for stakeholders across the health, pharmaceutical, regulatory and industrial sectors to deliberate on strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare systems, combating counterfeit and substandard products, and advancing policies that protect public health while encouraging innovation and economic growth.
As legislators, our responsibility goes beyond oversight; it is to support frameworks that enhance regulatory efficiency, promote local pharmaceutical manufacturing, encourage compliance, and ensure Nigerians have access to safe, quality and affordable products.
I commend National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control for sustaining conversations that drive national development through health security and consumer protection. The collaboration between government institutions, industry players and development partners remains vital in building a healthier and more productive nation.
I remain committed to supporting policies and legislative interventions that will continue to strengthen NAFDAC’s mandate and safeguard the wellbeing of Nigerians.
