Senior Exec @MasseyHall and @RoyThomsonHall, rebuilding Massey Hall, lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns, Virginia and live music anywhere! Opinions are mine!
Fun fact about the "fly loft" in this article. These were originally side boxes for patrons to view over the stage - this one at gallery level. Circa 1910 these boxes were altered, first for organ pipes, then for a fly loft. Sides boxes visible at far left of the photo.
Thanks to @dgtroop for the tour of @masseyhall yesterday. Incredible to see all the nooks & crannies of the Old Dame as she gets a makeover & revitalization. Incredible to witness the restoration work & visualize what is to come. #masseyhallforever
New steel truss installed next to 1894 steel in the over stage area of the roof structure. Thanks to @mcphersoncomm for accompanying me. #ellisdon#masseyhallforever
On cue, new steel truss being lifted into place. This will replace 1894 steel - 125 years of faithful service but time to increase load capacity. #ellisdon#masseyhallforever@masseyhall
So people are asking - what are these @masseyhall ceiling adornments? They are original 1894 ventilator grilles that were repurposed for electrical lighting in the 1920's. An unexpected discovery hidden for 100 years. #masseyhallforever Plaster restoration in progress.
Some behind-the-scenes from the #cbcthenational Behind the Scenes tour of the @masseyhall revitalization. A great time was had, we did climb much further than intended and both Ian and Jim are welcome back anytime as we work on this ๐จ๐ฆnational treasure.
#masseyhallmoment The architectural details in the hall are really quite amazing and somewhat unique for the time. Here are few images pre-July 2018 closing. All under restoration. #masseyhallforever
Restructuring the 1894 #masseyhall by needling new steel columns into the building - to take the weight of future additions, coming soon. Thanks to #WaltersSteel and #EllisDon for the steering!
#masseyhallmoment Who wants to rock like it's...late 2020! You're looking at the eventual floor plate of the huge Balcony level lounge for the revitalized @masseyhall. Get ready to be called to the bar, live music lovers! ๐ค๐ธ
Wonder where this window goes? Hmmmmโฆโฆ.
Apparently, there are 93 separate windows each with two to three sashes being restored. That's a lot of windows!
Original @masseyhall stained glass windows being cleaned, repaired & restored. These incredible pieces date back to 1890โs. #MasseyHall closed July 1, 2018 w/ Gordon Lightfoot concert. Itโs undergoing a massive revitalization project and will re-open late 2020 #toronto#History
