🚨 Madurai is losing tourists — and the reasons are staring us in the face.
A city with the Meenakshi Amman Temple, Thirumalai Nayak Palace, Gandhi Museum and several historic sites is seeing tourist footfall 15% decline compared to last year.
📉 Domestic tourists:
2 crore → 1.7 crore (Jan–May)
🌍 Foreign tourists:
Only 50,000+ visitors
And the problems are systemic:
❌ Gandhi Museum closed for months, renovation still incomplete
❌ Poor international flight connectivity
❌ Autorickshaw overcharging
❌ Garbage & sanitation issues
❌ Congested roads & inadequate toilets
❌ Parking problems around Meenakshi Amman Temple
❌ Several heritage/tourist sites poorly maintained
❌ Kutladampatti Falls has remained closed for 8 years, despite ₹2.93 crore sanctioned for renovation
Madurai has everything needed to be a major tourism hub. What it lacks is consistent maintenance, connectivity and execution.
Tamil Nadu needs a serious, city-level tourism development plan for Madurai before more tourists simply choose somewhere else. Tourism cannot be built by monuments alone. The entire visitor experience matters.
There are 50,000 wild animals at Vantara that were obtained before they received the 38 H1 licences, which makes their possession illegal under the law and was subsequently regularised (yet illegal because 38 H1 is a prior approval) by the Modi government.
Why should there be different rules of law for different people?

For not maintaining minimum balance, banks collected ₹19,000 crore from customers in 3 years (FY 2022–23 to FY 2024–25) i.e. Rs. 6,000 Crore per year.
For FY 2025–26, the government has reported collections of roughly ₹7,100 crore.
Just this single penalty is enough to fund twice the annual running expenses for UPI.
Kerela has made history by creating an exclusive government department dedicated to its senior citizens. It has around 19% of its population against the national average of around 12%.
This department is not about just living, healthcare, etc. but ensuring their dignity!
@ShashiTharoor Indira Gandhi removed playing national anthem at movie theatres after a show and by AIR while winding up its program, late in the night. Application of mind.
“History will indeed remember him kindly as a quiet, gentle but a most consequential prime minister.”
Congress leader Sonia Gandhi writes on the legacy of Dr Manmohan Singh
A man who has no respect for nature, has encroached upon elephant habitat, and conducts an annual high-decibel disco inside the buffer zone. How is it enlightening to talk to such an insensitive man who is being protected by the Modi government for his alleged illegalities, just like Vantara?

Imagine a random city in Sri Lanka running with old Tata and Ashok Leyland buses from India and still mogging the best cities of India, with clean air & dirt free roads. It’s all in the mindset and leadership.
After meeting Rahul Gandhi some 15 years ago, I made these diary entries: It’s impossible not to be impressed by his civility & sensibility… an embodiment of good values, an instinctive inclusiveness & empathy for the disadvantaged.
Now, watching from afar, I feel the same way.
Why this outrage about Amit Shah not attending parliament?
You want Education Minister to have education, right?
You want Finance Minister to get Finance, no?
You want Agriculture Minister to visit farms, correct?
SO WHAT'S THE PROBLEM IF THE HOME MINISTER IS SITTING AT HOME???
