Q. The biggest reason I find IU so fascinating is that you never seem to stay in one place. With each album you release, your themes change. Just as you established yourself as a singer-songwriter, you challenged yourself with dramas, and just as you began to be recognized as an actress, you went on to take on films… Where does the strength to keep moving nonstop for nearly 20 years come from?

IU: I don’t have any hobbies. Work is my only hobby and my form of self-improvement. What drives me are personal words from people, like saying my music helped them endure an illness, or that they found comfort and peace of mind by listening to my songs when they were struggling with insomnia. Those words are the strength that helps me become someone who suits music.

Q. 어린 시절의 가치관이나 습관이 오늘날에도 여전히 당신을 인도하고 있나요?

A. 저는 항상 불안한 사람이었기 때문에 무언가에 대해 확신을 갖기까지 많은 시간과 노력이 필요합니다. 저는 제 자신을 믿으려고 노력하지만 너무 많이 믿지는 않습니다. 대신 무언가에 투자한 시간을 신뢰합니다.

A. "당신은 지금까지 노력한 모든 것에 대해 사랑받을 것입니다. 하지만 단순히 열심히 일했다고 해서 그 사랑을 받을 자격이 있다고 생각하기 시작하면 그 사랑은 오래가지 못할 것입니다. 항상 얼마나 운이 좋았는지 기억하세요. 그렇게 한다면 계속해서 열심히 일할 것입니다."
