Some personal/Redbridge news! Looking forward to joining @KamRai7@vanisha_solanki and @Jcblackman at the Town Hall even more often - and having big shoes to fill following @firewool's long tenure in this challenging but important portfolio.

This #WorldBookDay, let’s remember how books can empower and open doors. But reading rates among boys and young men are falling, deepening educational gaps. 📚
Proud to work with Boys’ Impact, Go All In and the Labour Group for Men and Boys to shine a light on this issue. 💪
For 53 yrs the Freedom Pass has been part of London life, supporting older & disabled Londoners who’ve paid in all their lives. In Redbridge, Labour is clear: no cuts, no restrictions, no erosion of hard-earned rights.
This lovely couple told me how vital it is to their lives ❤️
Yesterday, I was honoured to join with local leaders and faith communities from across Redbridge to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day in Valentines Park in Ilford.
Our community came together to remember six million murdered Jews, other victims of Nazi atrocities and those who have lost their lives in subsequent genocides.
We will remember them. 🙏
Quite clear that urgent action is needed to increase vaccination rates in the UK.
The @CommonsHealth committee has called for a return of national targets, accelerated access to vaccines locally & a new national strategy.
Grateful to join @RedbridgeLive#HolocaustMemorialDay commemoration in Ilford earlier today with very moving readings by @KamRai7 and religious leaders and schools. Also glad to have seen @VisionRCL's exhibition of works at Valentines Mansion by a local survivor like this one.
Thank you to all Labour Councillors who have been out this weekend and in fact, most days supporting their communities.
Whatever else is going on we know they'll continue to do so without fanfare or expectations other than doing all they can for their residents.
Thank you 🌹
Thank you to @CalvinBailey for standing up for equality in Parliament.

This decision should be a green light for growth, unlocking the great national opportunity that cross-Channel rail represents. With potential for hundreds of skilled jobs at Temple Mills, I welcome Eurostar and Virgin’s commitments and will keep pushing this vital economic agenda. 🚆👇https://t.co/MI6ZZW8466
Huge thanks to the brave @LondonFire fighters tackling the large blaze on @CoLEppingForest Wanstead Flats.
Roads still shut around Centre/Lake House Rd. so avoid for time being.
Remember no fires, no BBQs, no cigarette ends and no litter as all can cause these fires.
Over the past 18 months we've conducted over 1000 visits to properties to crackdown on temporary accommodation fraud.
Amongst other matters, we found 43 properties being misused and are now housing the 43 vulnerable families who need them.
