The State-level observance of the 26th World Sight Day was held today at Chandel District Hospital, organised by the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCBVI), Manipur, in collaboration with the State Health Society (NHM), District Health Society, Chandel and the Directorate of Health Services, Manipur.
The event was graced by Dr. N. Hemantakumar Singh, Director of Health Services, Manipur, as the Chief Guest, with Dr. Joyson Mathew Monsang, Chief Medical Officer, Chandel, presiding as President. Dr. Y. Premchandra and Dr. Serbum Sakchung attended as Guests of Honour.
As a part of the observance, a Mega Eye Camp was conducted, benefiting 257 patients with free eye check-ups.
- 36 cataract and 18 pterygium cases were identified.
- 110 free spectacles were distributed to elderly beneficiaries.
- All participants received free medicines.
Identified cases will undergo surgery at the State Ophthalmic Cell, Imphal.
In his address, Dr. N. Hemantakumar Singh encouraged everyone to:
- Care for and love their eyes through good eye health practices.
- Spread awareness and pledge for eye donation.
- Stay alert against dengue and vector-borne diseases.
- Undergo regular eye, blood pressure, and diabetes screenings—major factors affecting vision.
He also assured that a regular ophthalmologist will soon be posted at Chandel District Hospital to strengthen local eye care services.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to the theme “Love Your Eyes”, reflecting the shared vision of a blindness-free society.

On 26th and 27th September 2025, a total of 91 health camps were conducted across Manipur at DHs, CHCs, PHC AAM, PHSC AAMs, UAAM, UPHCs and AYUSH AAMs under the Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan.
11627 participants benefitted from 91 health camps, receiving essential health check-ups, immunisation for children and pregnant women, counselling on menstrual hygiene, mental health, anaemia for adolescent girls & pregnant women, nutrition counselling, free blood testing, PMJAY card distribution, ABHA card registration, Nikshay Mitra enrolment, Blood donation drive and free distribution of medicine, IFA tab, sanitary napkins etc.
In total, 7 VIPs graced in the 91 health camps held statewide.
It is a step forward in building a healthier and empowered society especially for women

Considering the nature of their work, our traffic police personnel are often exposed to health risks, including a higher vulnerability to developing active TB later in life.
With the kind permission of SP Traffic, a one-day awareness lecture on TB prevention and care was conducted on 30th August 2025 at Dharamshala, by State TB Cell in collaboration with Traffic Control Police Wing and Social Health Society under the National Health Mission, Manipur.
The program was organised under the vision of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, focused on prevention, early detection and care—safeguarding the health of those who tirelessly serve the community on our roads.

To make essential health services more accessible, a Disability Assessment Camp was held on 29 August, 2025, at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Kakching Conference Hall under the supervision of District Administration Kakching.
A total of 84 individuals underwent assessment for issuance of Disability Certificates and Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards, enabling them to avail benefits under various Government schemes.
The camp was jointly organised by the Health Department, Kakching and the District Social Welfare Office (DSWO), Kakching, with doctors from different fields conducting examinations.
This initiative follows the announcement by Shri Rohit Anand, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Kakching, during the 79th Independence Day, ensuring that disability assessments are now conducted in Kakching on the last Friday of every month, saving residents from travelling to Thoubal District.
In addition, the Non Communicable Disease (NCD) Cell, District Health Society Kakching also organised a health screening programme with the theme “United by Unique” at Sugnu Makha Community Hall, in connection with World Cancer Day 2025. Screening for Oral Cancer, Breast Cancer, Hypertension and Diabetes was conducted, with over 150 participants attending the programme.

The Food Safety Administration, Health Department, Government of Manipur observed National Sports Day 2025 at Chumthang Sannapung, Imphal West, on 30th August 2025, commemorating the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
The event promoted fitness, healthy lifestyles and safe food practices, in line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s call to reduce oil intake and adopt balanced diets. Participants took the Fit India Pledge and joined in fun sporting events including football, badminton, races, tug of war and carrom.
Senior officials from the Health Department and Food Safety Administration graced the occasion, encouraging everyone to embrace sports, safe food and active living.

A Free Eye Donation cum Free Eye Check-up Camp was successfully conducted on 31 August 2025, at THAU Ground, Imphal, in observance of the 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight 2025 under the Theme “Everyday Heroes”.
Out of 275 patients who attended the camp, 130 free spectacles were provided to senior citizens, along with free distribution of medicines. Additionally, 17 patients were screened for free cataract surgery at the State Ophthalmic Cell.
Furthermore, 14 patients and volunteers came forward to donate their eyes and pledges were made with the Manipur State Eye Bank officials.
An observance function for the 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight was also held, the function was graced by Dr. Shugeta, DD SMB, Dy SNO SOTTO; Dr. Vikram Singh Khoisnam, SNO, NPCBVI; Dr. N. Reagan, Medical Director-in-charge, Manipur State Eye Bank; Monika Laishram, Project Coordinator, North-East and Project Lead, Manipur, Mohan Foundations and Y. Sanjib, President, DORTH Club, as Chief Guest, President and Guests of Honour, respectively.

The Food Safety Administration, Health Department, Government of Manipur, in collaboration with the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) and supported by Nestlé India, launched the Food Safety Supervisor Training and Certification (FoSTaC) program for 300 street food vendors across the state.
The training was inaugurated on 7th August 2025 at City Convention Centre, Imphal East, by Shri Somorjit Salam, Special Secretary (Health & FW). The inaugural event was also graced by Dr. Chambo Gonmei, Director of Health and Services, and Mr. Surojit Mukherjee, Head of Corporate Affairs, Nestlé India, along with Mr. Sanjay Simon Sen, Senior Manager of Corporate Affairs, Nestlé India.
The program focused on:
• Safe and hygienic food practices
• Preventing foodborne illnesses
• Personal and cart cleanliness
• Pest control and waste management
• Entrepreneurship and growth mindset
As of 11th August 2025, 159 street food vendors have already been trained and certified under this initiative. The trainings were imparted by FSSAI empanelled Trainer, Ajit Sinha.
