The Trail of Tears is one of the darkest chapters in American history. In the 1830s, under the Indian Removal Act signed by President Andrew Jackson, thousands of Native people—including the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Seminole nations—were forced from their ancestral homelands in the southeastern United States.

Families were rounded up, homes were destroyed, and people were marched hundreds of miles to so-called “Indian Territory” west of the Mississippi River, in what is now Oklahoma. The journey was brutal—marked by hunger, disease, exhaustion, and exposure to the elements. Historical records estimate that as many as 4,000 Cherokee men, women, and children died during the forced relocation.

For Native communities, the Trail of Tears was not just a moment of suffering, but a devastating assault on their culture, identity, and way of life. Yet even in the face of tragedy, they endured. The descendants of those who walked the trail continue to carry forward their language, traditions, and resilience today.

The message in the image is powerful: the truth of the Trail of Tears must be remembered and taught in schools. Understanding this history is not about guilt—it is about honesty. It is about ensuring that future generations know the full story of America, including the voices of those who were silenced and the struggles of those who survived.

That is the part of history many people were never fully taught.
The Trail of Tears forced Native nations from their ancestral lands after the U.S. government ordered their removal.
Families lost homes, farms, sacred places, and loved ones.
Some walked over 1,000 miles in brutal conditions.
Disease spread quickly.
Food was scarce.
Winter storms killed many who were already weak from exhaustion.
Mothers carried sick children while trying to survive.
Elders were left behind after collapsing from fatigue.
Entire families disappeared during the journey.
Yet Native communities endured.
Today, descendants still remember the stories passed down by survivors.
The trauma did not end when the marches ended.
Its effects continued through generations.
Many Indigenous people say schools often rush through this history too quickly.
A few textbook pages cannot fully explain the suffering, resistance, and resilience of Native nations.
History is not meant to make people comfortable.
It is meant to help people understand truth.
Because a country cannot fully heal from the past if it refuses to fully acknowledge it.
Why this matters:

• Cultural resilience
• Respect for Native communities
• Honest education

A 10-year-old girl named Marwa, who sells tissues on the streets of Aswan, Egypt, rushed to watch a children’s marathon from afar and eagerly asked the organisers if she could join.

Although she had not paid the 200-pound participation fee and lacked proper sports shoes or clothing, she was determined to take part and even dreamed of winning.

The organisers allowed the innocent girl to compete. Marwa ran barefoot, just as she runs through the streets every day chasing customers to sell tissues. She ran with the pride of the underprivileged, moving as if she were soaring toward the finish line.

To everyone’s amazement, she crossed the finish line first and won the gold medal.

Despite her difficult circumstances, Marwa believed in herself and refused to let any obstacles stop her from achieving her goal.

In December, an 85-year-old North Carolina widow called a tree company begging for firewood, she said she was cold and couldn't heat her home.

The owner delivered it free and then fixed her roof, her heat, her car, raised $20,000 for her Christmas... and STILL maintains her property free, checking on her every week.

Her name is Nana Abernathy. She had just lost her husband and was struggling to survive on her own when she made that call last December.

Paul Brittain, the owner, showed up with the firewood himself. No charge.

But while he was there, he noticed things: a leaking roof, a broken heating unit, a car that needed tires.

So he came back, this time with his whole crew.

They fixed the roof.
Replaced the heat.
Put new tires on her car.

All for free.

Then, for Christmas, Paul raised $20,000 for her.

To this day, he maintains her property at no charge and checks on her every single week, just to make sure she's okay.

He has never charged her a dime.
