For very specific historical reason. Opium was devastating in every possible way for China and part and parcel of semi-colonialism.
Brazilians have a different historical context where drug enforcement has been devastating for poor Brazilians: it’s been a way to socially and economically oppress the poor.
It’s not about if drugs are bad for people - they are. It’s about the criminalizing, law enforcement, who’s being targeted and what are the consequences and casualties.
So the departure point is different.
The left in Brazil is caught in a harsh cycle (I’m inferring) - needs to formulate a transitional demand around drug criminality that would garner support immediately and also in the future lay the groundwork for eventual social and economic development which would hopefully lead to dismantling the drug industry and give people productive jobs and a good life.
The beauty of Chinese revolution is that it didn’t apply (or stopped applying) what worked in the Russian revolution and Europe when it wasn’t working for China and created their own specific political lines and strategy that led the to a successful revolution.
The method of understanding reality and that informing practices are most important to learn from each other.
@imjustdavonte@axiochrono Yeah but I don’t have to prove anything to you. I don’t read either of those sorts of things. I read history and Marxist philosophy
@ChunCuiJingYan I believe China isnt sending direct military supplies to carefully manage its relations with the US. China is Iran’s economic lifeline. It is their biggest oil customer and sends them manufacturing equipment that Iran can use to domestically produce weapons. Whats your conclusion
“Epstein class” is not only a viral term but includes the word “class” in it. Of course we should use it. It’s a slam dunk into class politics and the remaining clientele
@talitoschi In this example there was an existing revolution and wide support from the masses. The critique from your Chinese comrades is that Brazil has not reached anywhere near that stage of development. The masses largely do not yearn for communism
@soycialist I feel like this term touches the heart of the masses though. It’s a great segue into discussing class and getting more Marxist conversation going
@EdbieLigerSmith People need to realize that AI is developing within capitalist relations.
Technological progress itself isn’t a negative but the way it’s being used to depress our cognition, irresponsibly use resources, and constructed in primarily POC and poorer communities is.
@imavov1@SStricklandMMA@ufc When will UFC fighters realize that they need to unionize if they want to be paid what they’re worth? They also need to collectively fight this new Ali bill
