Odisha is that child of the father who is happy because his brothers are doing well. He proudly boasts to the neighbours about this, while he himself remains piss-poor.

Case in point: Odisha is perhaps the only coastal and non-Hindi state in India that has failed to fully utilise its geographical, economic and strategic potential.

And let's not forget how Odisha survived culturally and linguistically. Our language survived not because Odisha successfully protected and promoted it, it's because of the the existence of other strong non-Hindi states helped create a larger space for linguistic diversity in India. We benefited from the presence and resistance of states like Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and others.

Now people are celebrating the Raipur–Visakhapatnam project and the Kharagpur–Amaravati project as if these are achievements of Odisha or its politicians. Please understand, Odisha is not the reason these projects are happening. Odisha just happens to be sitting in the middle.

The real economic force behind these corridors is the growth ambitions and strategic interests of Andhra Pradesh and CBN. And Odisha? We are busy celebrating the fact that someone else's highway, railway or economic corridor happens to pass through our land.

A state with a coastline, minerals, ports, strategic location and enormous natural resources shouldn't be proud of being a passageway for someone else's growth. We need to stop celebrating geography as governance. Odisha needs to become the destination not the corridor.

> 7–8 May: As soon as complaints were received, the matter was handed over to the CBI, which immediately began its investigation.

> 12 May: The CBI registered an FIR, and the NEET examination was officially cancelled.

> 15 May: Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan publicly accepted accountability, stating that despite the reforms recommended by the Radhakrishnan Committee, the system had failed and that he took full responsibility. He also announced a CBI probe and confirmed that NEET would shift to Computer-Based Testing (CBT) from 2027.

> 21 June: The re-NEET examination was conducted successfully.

He's Tukaram Mundhe, a 2005-batch IAS from Maharashtra.

Over the last few weeks, you might have heard his name. That is because he was recently appointed Commissioner of State’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Since taking charge, the FDA has been on an absolute warpath, raiding illegal, fake, synthetic, and adulterated products. From synthetic milk networks and adulterated paneer to illegal gutkha and unhygienic eateries, nothing has escaped his radar.

Mundhe has made it clear that even the most famous names will not get a free pass. His department shocked Mumbai by suspending the food licenses of iconic establishments, such as the 73-year-old Marine Drive ice cream parlor K. Rustom & Co., alongside famous eateries like Shalimar Hospitality, Noor Mohammadi Hotel, and Rahmaniya Restaurant, after surprise inspections uncovered severe hygiene violations, including live pests and expired ingredients.

Such is the fear of his crackdowns that, just two days ago, dairy farmers were caught on video spilling hundreds of liters of synthetic milk after rumors of an impending FDA raid spread.

This is his 25th transfer in a 21-year career, a testament to his refusal to bend to political pressure. It makes you wonder: if just one IAS officer can bring about so much change, where would our country be if every bureaucrat were as uncompromising and proactive as him?

The real story behind the West Bengal building fire:

✅ While most of the discussion is focused on the reported destruction of around 4,000 EVMs, very few are asking a more important question: what else was burnt in that building?

✅ The fire reportedly affected the 3rd, 8th and 9th floors, with initial reports suggesting that it may have started from the 3rd floor.

✅ The West Bengal government has itself reportedly not ruled out the possibility of internal sabotage, which makes the case even more serious.

✅ The 3rd floor reportedly housed the South 24 Parganas Zilla Parishad office, from where Jahangir Khan is said to have operated.

✅ The 8th floor reportedly had offices linked to the School Education Department, Mid-Day Meal records, Horticulture Department, and other departments that have earlier faced allegations of irregularities.

✅ The most sensitive claim is about the 9th floor, where reports suggest that apart from EVMs, there may also have been records linked to the Diamond Harbour election petition, where Abhishek Banerjee won by nearly 7 lakh votes.

✅ But the public narrative has been largely limited to just the EVMs. The bigger question is: were other sensitive files, departmental records, or election-related documents also destroyed and why is there no clear public disclosure yet?
