@DuttonChemistry If you are going to McMaster you can take a bus from Aldershot to McMaster. There's also a GO bus I believe called the Hamilton GO Express that'll take you from union.
I just missed out on getting an inorganic mixer ticket at #ccce2022#csc2022. It's my favorite event of the year and I'm desperate! If anyone can help me out I'd be very appreciative!
@pkennepohl@LouiseDawe @cathleencrudden @MarkStradiotto @DrBarryChem Unfortunately we are expecting a bad rainstorm in the Calgary area from Monday to Wednesday so hopefully there are some covered outside areas
@ScienceLuc I also feel a greater amount of anxiety than before COVID. I used to be quite extroverted, and could talk to people forever. However now I find I get anxious and tired after social situations and need more alone time than I'm used to. Thanks for sharing โค๏ธ
@jasonmasuda I'm wondering as X-ray becomes more accessible, whether doing powder X-ray diffraction on bulk sample and comparing it to the computed pattern from a single crystal structure is a good alternative.
@lucie_nurdin I'm personally a fan of pyridine-d5. Not as coordinating as THF (for oxophillic metals), no chance of polymerization and generally cheaper.
@jasonmasuda @KozyCanuck @MarkStradiotto@RolandRoesler@marcuswdrover@LaurelSchafer@christine_m_le @sean_t_barry @tbaumlab @FLPchemist I highly recommend to anyone that wears prescription glasses to buy prescription safety glasses as these significantly decrease fogging and slipping (imo these should be provided by the employer, but grad students do not often get here kinds of benefits).
@jasonmasuda @KozyCanuck @MarkStradiotto@RolandRoesler@marcuswdrover@LaurelSchafer@christine_m_le @sean_t_barry @tbaumlab @FLPchemist We have been able to successfully argue that lab coats are not necessary in the glove box to our safety team. I personally still wear them because I like to avoid my clothes smelling like rubber. However, our glovebox area is somewhat removed from the rest of the lab.
@jasonmasuda @KozyCanuck @MarkStradiotto@RolandRoesler@marcuswdrover@LaurelSchafer@christine_m_le @sean_t_barry @tbaumlab @FLPchemist I personally believe that eye protection should be worn at all times in a lab. Regardless of what you are doing, there are chemicals around, and always a potential for an accident such as an explosion in another area of a lab, or if you need to run to help another labmate.
