“Where is Vader today?”
“He’s paying the Rebel Alliance $300 billion dollars after defeating them completely, every day for the last four months, sir.”
Nicked from another page.
Nice to know the MOD has a sense of humour…
Never Mess with Officialdom!
Lt. Colonel Robert Maclaren retired from the British Army in 2001 after a long career. He received a letter from the Personnel Department of the Ministry of Defence setting out details of his pension and the tax-free ‘lump sum’ award, based upon his years of service, that he would receive in addition to his pension.
The letter read:
"Dear Lt. Colonel Maclaren,
We write to confirm that you retired from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards on 1st March 2001 at the rank of Lt Colonel, having been commissioned into the British Army at Edinburgh Castle as a 2nd Lieutenant on 1st February 1366.
Accordingly your lump sum payment, based on years served, has been calculated as £68,500. You will receive a cheque for this amount in due course.
Yours sincerely
Army Paymaster”
Lt Colonel Maclaren replied;
“Dear Paymaster,
Thank you for your recent letter confirming that I served as an officer in the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards between 1st February 1366 and 1st March 2001 – a total period of 635 years and 1 month.
I note however that you have calculated my lump sum to be £68,500, which seems to be considerably less than it should be bearing in mind my length of service since I received my commission from King Edward III. By my calculation, allowing for interest payments and currency fluctuations, my lump sum should actually be £6, 427, 586, 619. 47p. I look forward to receiving a cheque for this amount in due course.
Yours sincerely,
Robert Maclaren (Lt Col Retd)”
A month passed by and a stout manilla envelope from the Ministry of Defence arrived, it read:
“Dear Lt Colonel Maclaren,
We have reviewed the circumstances of your case as outlined in your recent letter to us dated 8th March inst. We do indeed confirm that you were commissioned into the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards by King Edward III at Edinburgh Castle on 1st February 1366, and that you served continuously for the following 635 years and 1 month. We have re-calculated your pension and have pleasure in confirming that the lump sum payment due to you is indeed £6, 427, 586, 619. 47p. However, we also note that according to our records you are the only surviving officer who had command responsibility during the following campaigns and battles;
The Wars of the Roses 1455 -1485
The Civil War 1642 -1651
The Napoleonic War 1803 – 1815
The Crimean War (1853 – 1856)
The Boer War (1899 -1902)
World War One (1914-1918).
We would therefore wish to know what happened to the following, which do not appear to have been returned to Quartermaster's Stores by you on completion of operations:
9765 Cannons
26,785 Swords
12,889 Pikes
127,345 Rifles (with bayonets)
28,987 horses (fully kitted)
Plus three complete marching bands with instruments and banners.
We have calculated the total cost of these items, allowing for interest payments and currency fluctuations, and they amount to £6,427,518.119.47p. We have therefore subtracted this sum from your lump sum, leaving a residual amount of £68,500, for which you will receive a cheque in due course.
Yours sincerely . . . .”
🤣🤣🤣🤣
@DrHelenFry There's a photo at the Natzwiler-Struthof exhibition of him being escorted after capture, and the face of the escorting Tommy just radiates anger and a 'just try something, I dare you' expression
@PhillipsPOBrien His 'ethics' have always placed himself front and centre, and everyone else is disregarded, so arguably this is wholly consistent. History will record that it was awarded to her.
IF I GET DEMENTIA…..
I’d like my family to hang this wish list up on the wall where I live. I want them to remember these things.
1a. Every time you enter the room announce yourself. “Hi Dad - it’s Amanda.”
NEVER ask- Do you know who I am??? That causes anxiety.
• If I get dementia, I want my friends and family to embrace my reality.
• If I think my spouse is still alive, or if I think we’re visiting my parents for dinner, let me believe those things. I’ll be much happier for it.
• If I get dementia, don’t argue with me about what is true for me versus what is true for you.
• If I get dementia, and I am not sure who you are, do not take it personally. My timeline is confusing to me.
• If I get dementia, and can no longer use utensils, do not start feeding me. Instead, switch me to a finger-food diet, and see if I can still feed myself.
• If I get dementia, and I am sad or anxious, hold my hand and listen. Do not tell me that my feelings are unfounded.
• If I get dementia, I don’t want to be treated like a child. Talk to me like the adult that I am.
• If I get dementia, I still want to enjoy the things that I’ve always enjoyed. Help me find a way to exercise, read, and visit with friends.
• If I get dementia, ask me to tell you a story from my past.
• If I get dementia, and I become agitated, take the time to figure out what is bothering me.
• If I get dementia, treat me the way that you would want to be treated.
• If I get dementia, make sure that there are plenty of snacks for me in the house. Even now if I don’t eat I get angry, and if I have dementia, I may have trouble explaining what I need.
• If I get dementia, don’t talk about me as if I’m not in the room.
• If I get dementia, don’t feel guilty if you cannot care for me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s not your fault, and you’ve done your best. Find someone who can help you, or choose a great new place for me to live. With a bus and activities!!
• If I get dementia, and I live in a dementia care community, please visit me often.
• If I get dementia, don’t act frustrated if I mix up names, events, or places.
Take a deep breath. It’s not my fault.
• If I get dementia, make sure I always have my favorite music playing within earshot.
• If I get dementia, and I like to pick up items and carry them around, help me return those items to their original place.
• If I get dementia, don’t exclude me from parties and family gatherings.
• If I get dementia, know that I still like receiving hugs or handshakes.
• If I get dementia, remember that I am still the person you know and love.”

Just sent out this free piece as the Istanbul talks are starting. Putin clearly seems to think Trump is on his side and wont sanction him or help Ukraine--or why else send such a humiliating Russian delegation to negotiate. And first signs are he is right, as Trump defends him.
@waitmanb Presumably the SecDef will also be standing by the freedom of service personnel to point out when the Commander In Chief is breaching the Constitution (you know, the one he swore to uphold)...
Capt Trump of the RMS Titanic: There isn't any iceberg.
There was an iceberg, but it's in a totally different ocean.
The iceberg is in this ocean, but it will melt very soon.
There is an iceberg, but we didn't hit the iceberg.
We hit the iceberg, but the damage will be repaired very shortly.
The iceberg is a Chinese iceberg.
We are taking on water, but every passenger who wants a lifeboat can get a lifeboat, and they are beautiful lifeboats.
Look, passengers need to ask nicely for the lifeboats if they want them.
We don't have any lifeboats; we're not lifeboat distributors.
Passengers should have planned for icebergs and brought their own lifeboats.
I really don't think we need that many lifeboats.
We have lifeboats, and they're supposed to be our lifeboats, not the passengers' lifeboats.
The lifeboats were left on shore by the last captain of this ship.
Nobody could have foreseen the iceberg.
I'm no legal expert (though I suspect that President Trump may not be either), but does being POTUS and Kremlin spokesman at the same time not constitute a conflict of interest?
@waitmanb@Telegraph Oh now come on, let's not jump to the conclusion he was doing a Nazi salute, I'm sure he just got a bit over excited.
Let me take another look....
Oh dear Lord, he really went and did the full Goebbels, didn't he? Yes,yes he did...
Marjorie Taylor Greene doesn't want you to know the name of her opponent but will try every desperate attempt to save her seat, like bogus claims about ballot fraud.
My name is Shawn Harris, and I'm running against MTG. Can you help me spread the word by retweeting this post?

this wonderful idea. A statue of Terry in Colwyn Bay.
The idea for a statue came from Terry’s friends at Theatr Colwyn in Colwyn Bay. Terry was their first, and only, patron for some time. After we lost him to dementia in January 2020, they contacted us and asked if we thought a statue of Terry might be something we could help them with.
Born in Colwyn Bay, Terry never got over being transplanted to Surrey at the age of five. He fiercely proclaimed his Welshness in an accent straight out of Guildford. Terry would be so proud if a statue of him could encourage people to visit Colwyn Bay and continue his passion to help promote the arts in North Wales. The plan is to have a life size statue, sat on the promenade in Colwyn Bay not on a plinth but on the ground next to kids eating ice cream in the summer and brave souls donning wetsuits for a winter dip in the bay. We thought he would like it best if he was in character, something for people to recognise with a chuckle.
To make a donation please do so here https://t.co/4uawuadR81 Go Fund Me will guide you through the process, or if you would like to make it directly to the charity I can send you their details. We are at the very beginning of our campaign. We are hoping to succeed without public funding, and would love to raise £120,000 with the support of his friends and fans around the world. Colwyn Bay gave us Terry and we are hoping to give something back.
