It’s the same communities designed for apartheid and entrenched through new housing programmes that perpetuate the apartheid City.

We will not resolve the scourge of violent crime by deploying soldiers & law enforcement officers here.

We have to solve the apartheid like conditions that persist.
Poor & insufficient housing.
Overcrowding.
Non-existent sports & recreation facilities & programmes.
Under-developed infrastructure.
No social services.
High unemployment.
The working poor.

Boots on the ground is the photo opportunity & an easy claim that “we’re doing something”.

Fixing the living conditions takes leadership, fearlessness and budget reprioritisaton.

Location is not a peripheral to housing access.
State bears a burden to align with Constitutional transformation.

City had failed to provide any housing in well located areas.
No justification for City’s policies lacking geographical location considerations.

No justification for failing to provide housing in Sea Point.

City cannot use land value as a basis for denying access to housing.

(Helen Zille told me “using high value land for affordable housing was over subsidizing the poor”)

City and Province has failed in their constitutional duties to provide well located affordable housing and to address spatial apartheid.
