🚨 Carlo Ancelotti on why Paolo Maldini could never be compared to most modern defenders:
“Today, many defenders think passion means diving into tackles, shouting, and playing with constant aggression. Paolo showed that true greatness comes from control.”
“I remember one Serie A match where a striker spent the entire first half trying to provoke him pushing, talking, looking for reactions. Maldini never responded once.”
“At halftime, I asked Paolo if the striker was annoying him. He looked at me and said: ‘If he is talking this much, it means he already lost focus on the football.’”
“In the second half, Maldini completely dominated him without making the game dirty. That was his mentality. He defeated opponents mentally before he defeated them physically.”
“That is why he was special. He defended with elegance, intelligence, and authority not chaos.”
Kalo masalahnya masalahnya terus, ga jalan2 kita
Saya pun kasih PR utk parents dgn iming-iming mengurangi screen time. Perkara prestasi juara Asia dst, nanti dulu deh. Yg penting anak-anak fun & gerak dulu.
Kalo mau dukung bola nasional, yuk sini bareng-bareng ikut awasin kelangsungan piramida sistem di bawah.
Biar liat sejauh mana level kita. Jangan cherry-picking cuma mau timnas menang tapi teriak-teriak liga jelek. Cerminan asli bola satu negara ya diliat dari sistem domestik.
Indonesia’s National Team has improved in several areas over the last months. 🇮🇩
But yesterday’s game was a step back in Three Key aspects:
📌 Compactness
📌 Rest Defense
📌 Deep Build-Up
These aren’t just tactical issues — they reflect the structure of Indonesian football itself. 👇
During the recent qualification games, Indonesia had shown real progress in the first two areas (Compactness and Rest Defense).
The 5-4-1 structure in defense, 3-2-4-1 in attack made the team more compact, improved defensive distances, and provided solid rest defense (3+2) — protecting transitions and giving control.
In previous months, Indonesia also showed great positional attacks in mid and final third build-up — partly due to the structure, but also because of the presence of players like Egy Maulana, Ridho, or Ole Romeny, who added creativity, rhythm and ability to play in small spaces in possession.
Yesterday, with the switch to a 4-2-3-1 / 4-4-2, many of those strengths were missing. Important players were missing too. The team lost compactness, distances between lines grew, with Saudi Arabia playing inside their block too easily. Wingers not closing inside in defense, Defensive line and Midfield Line far from each other, etc..
Honestly, these issues are not new. They often appear in the local league, where games are open and chaotic, full of transitions. A lack of compactness, little focus on rest defense, and limited attention to deep build-up make it difficult to control matches and impose a clear game model.
Usually, the team that wins is the one with better individuals in the boxes, not the one that controls what happens between the boxes.
I’ve said it many times: if Indonesia wants to grow, the domestic league must evolve too. You can’t expect players to adapt to two completely different football contexts — one in Liga 1 and another with the National Team.
A connected, aligned football system is what truly drives long-term progress. 🇮🇩⚽️
This afternoon I’ll speak in detail about these three areas — Compactness, Rest defense, and Deep Build-up — and how improving them can help Indonesia compete at a higher level. 🧵

Real football nations are built bottom-up—not top-down.
The problem isn’t elite talent.
It’s weak grassroots, poor early development, and no clear identity.
Stop treating symptoms. Start building from the foundation.

Metode yg mintak pakai buat ngelatih anak2 grassroots. Yup, ball mastery jadi pondasi utama. Menariknya di sini suka “silau” sama speed tp jadi prioritas ketiga. Jepang kemarin beknya juga punya ball mastery yg bagus. Lalu passing & receivingnya yg sempat Mintak bahas jg kmrn.
