Sometimes I would let it run through the night, and in the morning I would make a request to the same session just to see the tokens consumption go up, because it would resend all the context from that session again.
On claude code, after 5 minutes cache is expired, therefore it can be more expensive to continue in the same session instead of starting from a fresh one.
