In Busan, South Korea, a foreign university student from Sri Lanka lost an envelope containing 1.13 million won, about 820 dollars, which she had saved for months to pay her tuition. Desperate, she went to a police station using a translation app on her phone.

More than five hours later, a woman around 60 years old arrived at the station holding the envelope she had found on the street. She decided to return it intact, without keeping the money or asking for any reward.

Upon receiving the envelope, the student broke into tears and hugged the woman while thanking her. The woman explained she only wanted to return it because someone must have been very sad to lose so much effort.

Sri Lanka has met the stringent conditions imposed under the U.S. Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), removing barriers to the export of Blue Swimming Crab to the American market, the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic Resources and Ocean Resources announced.

The ministry said in a statement that the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) confirmed that Sri Lanka’s crab harvesting practices and related regulations are “comparable in effectiveness” to American standards.

In November 2025, a U.S. court ruling had temporarily affected exports.

However, after reviewing scientific data and evidence submitted by the Fisheries Department, NARA, and other relevant agencies, NOAA reconsidered its decision and granted approval.

Key points of the approval are as follows;

Export rights confirmed: Sri Lanka now holds the mandatory “Comparability Finding” certificate required for fishery exports to the U.S.
Validity period: Approval is valid until December 31, 2029, allowing uninterrupted exports of Blue Swimming Crab during this period.
Eco‑friendly fishing: Sri Lanka’s fishing methods, which avoid harm to dolphins, turtles, and other marine mammals, received international recognition. (Newswire)
