Microsoft and Epic announced that they are expanding their collaboration to develop and integrate generative AI into healthcare. The partnership will combine OpenAI's GPT based services with Epic's electronic health record (EHR).

What if I am a patient of a hospital that uses EPIC? Do I then have to give my consent for them to use an opaque and closed system that might memorize my data?

And why does it need a cloud based service? I would only consent if they use Edge and Open Sourced AI, but do I have a choice? Would you? And for the Germans, what would Lauterbach, who recently promoted EPIC, do with this kind of information?
