Legacy or costly hangover? One year ago #Tokyo2020 was opened. DIJ deputy director and Olympic volunteer @barbGhawaii comments on the Games' aftermath and Japan's next Olympic ambitions: "And now they want to it again without asking the people of Sapporo." @APNews@dij_Tokyo2020
We knew the scandal over the Olympics is sad for Japan. But the Kadokawa news conference going on now is really sad. The executives have apologized and promised better governance but stopped short of saying whether the chairman is guilty or not, leaving that to the criminal case.
Spoke to a local staffer for the Olympics. She was standing at a fence inside the closed loop, her husband & two young sons saying they missed her from meters away. It was the closest they could get to each other on the Lunar New Year. She said it's been a "tough" Olympics @cnn
Inside v. outside the #WinterOlympics bubble. My colleague @David_Culver & I haven't seen each other in ages. But the closest we could get was meters apart. Inside the closed loop, we're literally fenced in.
It's disconnected Beijing residents from the Games @cnn@OutFrontCNN

Paralympics in Tokyo demonstrated how people with disabilities can achieve at highest levels. It also motivated Japan to install more elevators in train stations & make hotel rooms & bathrooms accessible. But will it truly make Japan an inclusive society? https://t.co/znnlMIyujl
Brad Snyder becomes 1st US man - Olympic or #Paralympic - to win gold in triathlon. The war vet was completely blinded in Afghanistan after stepping on an IED. He says the q of whether the war was worth it, "plagues me, it keeps me awake at night" @CNN

Tokyo 2020 tried so hard to lift the Paralympics onto the same level as the Olympics. But: media covers the Paralympics much less - and even Thomas Bach only stays for two days of events? Are you kidding me? Talking about making his priorities clear! Sorry Someity 😢
