新型ランサム「WantToCry」が確認された。SMB経由で侵入し、端末上にマルウェアを配置せず遠隔暗号化する手法を採用しており、従来型EDRを回避しやすい点が最大の特徴となっている。

Sophosによると、攻撃者はShodanやCensysなどを利用して、TCP 139/445番ポートを外部公開しているSMBサーバを探索する。2026年時点で150万台超のSMB公開機器が確認されており、大規模な攻撃面が存在する。

侵入後は弱い認証情報へのブルートフォース攻撃を実施。認証成功後も通常のランサムウェアのように実行ファイルを設置せず、SMBセッション経由でファイルを攻撃者側へ転送し、外部で暗号化処理を行う。暗号化済みファイルは再びSMB経由で書き戻され、「.want_to_cry」拡張子が付与される。

この方式ではローカルで不審プロセスが動作しないため、EDRやアンチウイルスによる検知が難しい。一方で、大量のSMB読み書き通信や異常な認証試行はネットワーク上の兆候として残る。

身代金要求額は主に600ドル前後のBitcoinで、qToxやTelegramを通じて交渉を行う。現時点では二重脅迫や大規模横展開は確認されていない。

Sophosは、SMBv1無効化、外部からのSMB遮断、多要素認証、SMB経由で到達できないバックアップ構成を推奨している。
