Brian Lara never made a triple century away from home. Chris Gayle made 333 in Galle, on a turning pitch, over nearly ten hours. Happy 47th birthday to one of only four men in history with two of them.

Bradman, Lara, Sehwag and Gayle. That is the entire list, in nearly 150 years of Test cricket, of batters who have scored two Test triple centuries. And one of those four names is still widely filed as a T20 novelty act.

The first was 317 against South Africa in Antigua in 2005. The second is the one that matters. November 2010, Galle, Sri Lanka, on the kind of surface built to break visiting batters, and Gayle occupied the crease for the best part of ten hours. Lara, for all his brilliance, made both his triple hundreds at home in Antigua.

Then there is the fortnight that shows the whole range. Australia, December 2009. At Adelaide he batted more than seven hours for 165 not out to save the Test. Eleven days later at Perth, captaining a side stripped of both Chanderpaul and Barath through injury and replying to 520, he hit a 70-ball hundred with six sixes, one of which landed on the roof of the Lillee-Marsh Stand, a feat only Mark Waugh had managed before him. He reached his century with another six over the sightscreen and fell to his knees. West Indies lost by 35 runs.

He is the only cricketer ever to score a Test triple, an ODI double and a T20I century.

And in 2012, in Dhaka, he hit the very first ball of a Test match for six. Nobody else ever has.

A terrible and tragic flash flood has taken place at Gyirong in Tibet - China, and one of our Kailash groups was caught in it. While on their way back, they were at the immigration office when the flood occurred and the building and much of the town seems to have been flooded.

All of us, including the volunteers and support teams are deeply anguished and are doing our utmost to assist in the rescue. There has been no official information on the whereabouts of any of the people who were at the immigration office. We are working with the authorities to see if we can get to the location and stand ready to be part of the rescue efforts, regardless of the risk involved.

Of the 21 groups who are part of our Sojourn, 495 people have already returned safely. 743 people are currently in Tibet, 148 people are in Nepal, and 77 people were at the immigration center, and 3 volunteers in Timure, Nepal.

To the families and loved ones of those in our group and hundreds of others who are affected in the region, I share your pain and we are sparing no effort during this profoundly difficult time. I am personally in the region to ensure the best can be done in the given circumstances 🙏🏽- Sg
