Francis Ford Coppola’s life-long project MEGALOPOLIS is best described as a trainwreck. And yet, it is quite probably the single most important movie of the year, the decade, and even the century thus far.

Stellen Skarsgard on the the growing presence of AI in the movie industry:
"For thousands of years, people have been very much interested in people. Describing people is what theater does, what film does — and what we do best. In film — even better than in television — you can describe all the unspoken words, all the unspoken facets of a relationship that are almost impossible to explain but are still there. We will always be curious about other people. That curiosity will never leave us."
What form it takes, how it will be produced — maybe some people will be happy enough with what AI can produce, and some will not. But I think the main problem for the moving image industry today is the concentration of capital. And the concentration of capital is the problem for every industry, for humanity. AI is nothing without the men behind it. AI is owned by the tech barons standing right behind power."

The Fincher-Tarantino movie may set an all time land speed record for performative disinterest on here, which is of course a byproduct of how actually interesting it promises to be
the idea that movie theaters across the united states of america are PACKED on christmas night because people can't wait to see a josh safdie film about a twerpy jewish kid trying to ping-pong his way out of the lower east side tenements in 1952… the movies are so romantic to me

WEAPONS is even more of a blast than I thought it would be. Swings so confidently between horror and comedy that it makes tonal whiplash its bitch. Zach Cregger has the sauce
Without a shadow of a doubt nor hyperbole, THE single craziest thing to ever happen in the history of cinema box office. I fear this may cause irreparable damage to the consumer ticket-purchasing dynamic……
Behold, the Christopher Nolan effect.
Tickets for select IMAX 70mm screenings of Christopher Nolan’s ‘THE ODYSSEY’ are nearly sold out after just 1 hour.
Some people are also already trying to resell their tickets for high prices.
The film releases in 1 year from today.
Film criticism, when done well, is supposed to make you think deeper about a film and engage with it in more complex ways. It is not really meant to decide for the entire population whether or not they should see something. You all have agency. You get to decide that yourself.
Continue to be shocked at the pushback from Academy members on the nomination screening requirements — your job is to WATCH MOVIES!!
What makes members who aren’t EXCITED by this responsibility qualified to vote on cinema’s biggest stage?
