Estimating the value of the EigenLayer airdrop

Around two weeks ago I built a calculator for estimating the EigenLayer airdrop.

I've been waiting to post it as I have been testing how the numbers develops over time. I feel fairly confident with it now.

A quick 3-min read:

#1 Estimating points/day/ETH

The EigenLayer caps are opening again here in Jan so now is a good time to try and estimate whether this is worth depositing ETH into.

Estimating the points per day per ETH is what I have been testing in particular for the past few weeks.

You can calculate this by inputting your ETH deposited, points accumulated and length of deposit (Etherscan shows number of days ago you deposited).

After testing this over the past weeks, it seems you get ~20-25 points per day per ETH deposited into EigenLayer

#2 Estimating the TVL and points growth

With deposits being capped most of the time, I estimated a 70% TVL growth which means EigenLayer grows from 657k ETH to 1,118k ETH.

This might be slightly to the conservative side given recent leveraged strategies on @pendle_fi and general excitement.

Currently, there are roughly 965m points in circulation. With the above predictions and estimations, and assuming snapshot happens in 180 days, this will grow to ~4.7b points.

#3 Estimating the airdrop

Let's now estimate the airdrop. I've put in an $EIGEN FDV of $15b, which is pretty conservative given $TIA is trading at an FDV of $20b.

If 7% of the supply is airdropped, the total $EIGEN airdrop will be worth $1.05b. In a bull market this could likely be higher however.

With this in mind, 1 point will be worth $0.23 at snapshot (if in 180 days).

With the values from my own wallet, this results in an airdrop of ~$43k from 40ETH deposited a month ago.

At current $ETH price, that corresponds to a 75.4% APR.

NOTE: This includes a LOT of assumptions and the real value will probably be pretty different (either higher or lower).

It's very difficult to estimate especially as we don't know how points are distributed excactly.

This calculator also doesn't consider potential tiers like we saw with Jito.

I think tiers are somewhat likely which causes larger deposits to receive a smaller airdrop and smaller deposits to receive a larger airdrop
