I’m absolutely devastated.

The pain community lost a giant. THE OG.

Dr. Forest Tennant.

He was one of those rare physicians who didn’t just study people with intractable pain. He listened to us. He believed us. And when treating us became controversial, he stood by us. And even more, he stood up for us.

I was incredibly fortunate to have had a few conversations with him.

He was always exceptionally kind to me. He followed my advocacy work, reached out personally to congratulate me when we had wins, and treated my work as something worth paying attention to.

That meant more to me than I ever properly told him.

Forest spent decades caring for some of the sickest and most abandoned pain patients in this country, and even after leaving clinical practice, he kept researching, writing and trying to make our lives better.

His work saved lives.

His courage gave the rest of us courage.

And his absence will be felt for a very, very long time.

Rest easy, Dr. Tennant.

Thank you for believing patients.

And thank you for believing in those of us who were fighting in the policy arena, too. ❤️‍🩹
