The legend goes that while Siddhartha Gautama meditated under the scorching sun, 108 snails crawled onto his head to protect him from heatstroke. These snails sacrificed their lives to shield him, symbolizing selflessness and compassion. This tale is often interpreted metaphorically to highlight interconnectedness and kindness.
That is why his head is depicted with those snails .
