@Stricolo@InclusiveMinds@DrHannah@BlondeHistorian Yeah, it's such a fbg issue. People seem to think that it's perfectly fine to come up to us and grab hold of us or touch us. There's an expectation that we'll be grateful, not furious.
Congrats to @DayAlMohamed on her new novella, The Labyrinth's Archivist
Check it out! It's an #OwnVoices novella with a disabled protagonist of color, who also happens to have a girlfriend https://t.co/4KiGj0eEmf

people commenting saying ‘it’s an accident not discrimination’ are ridiculous
Inaccessible design is by its nature discriminatory. That public transport is often unusable for disabled people is discrimination. The guard not being there isn’t the issue the lack of equal access is
Not just neurodiversity, but disabled characters too.
Don’t use “special needs”, “handicapped”or the godforsaken “handicapable” either.
Thanks in advance, publishing!
@BlondeHistorian I get worse headaches and migraines during my periods. I haven't noticed an impact on my vision, but I don't actually have that much vision, so I could have just not noticed, maybe.
@WheelsofSteer I guess it's to make them look appealing? Though, I completely get how you feel. There's really nothing feminine or lovely about periods.
Yet another reminder why I write what I write. This *opinion* isn't rare -- it's unfortunately very common.
This is why we desperately need disability representation in SFF. We should get to topple kingdoms and ride dragons and fly spaceships.

I was just rolling down the street and heard a toddler exclaim to (presumably) his mother: "He's going FAST!"
I live for these moments outside of society's expectations, when my body, too, gets to be one worth looking up to.
White supremacy is so pervasive disabled black, indigenous and people of color don’t even experience ableism in the same way.
Racism is so inherent that black and brown people in other marginalized identities don’t experience their “ism” like the white people in their community.
most of the "I applied to X MFA programs before I got in. I submitted my book Y times before it got accepted" narratives are framed as acts of perseverance without addressing how much money that all costs & how inaccessible is to so many writers for reasons of $$, not dedication
And there's also some great content about disability and relationships. Probably one of my favourite quotes from the book is something she said to her husband: "I'm not telling you it's going to be easy, I'm telling you it's going to be worth it."
