“In a special episode recorded before his death, David Knowles attends a football match in Ukraine, exploring how 'the beautiful game' has served as an anchor in a country at war”. I was very lucky to produce this with David as one of his last projects.

Thank you @EditorsUK for naming @Telegraph's 'Ukraine: The Latest' their 'Podcast of the Year.'
It was a happy but bittersweet moment, as @DomNicholls and I felt someone was missing up there on stage.
David, wherever you are: this one's for you.

A candle is burning for David at the Journalists’ Altar in St Bride's church on Fleet Street, London. Due to its location, @stbrideschurch has long been associated with journalists and the media profession. It's a beautiful place and open to the public from 8am-5pm.
I had the pleasure of sitting next to David and still do. I miss him dearly, it really hurts.
Please take 2 minutes to read this lovely obit. He was one of a kind, without ego or cliche, just unapologetically himself every day.

"A naturally gifted broadcaster, he was a reassuringly authoritative presence who never pushed his own personality into the foreground, even though he felt deeply about the fate of the Ukrainian people."

Something quite extraordinary - the online book of condolences for David has so many messages it would take literally hours to scroll down and read all of them. Never seen anything like it, will probably never see the likes of it again:

Defence Associate Editor @DomNicholls@Telegraph speaks to @NickFerrariLBC@LBC about the legacy of journalist David Knowles @djknowles22 as the creator & host of the award-winning @Telegraph podcast “Ukraine: The Latest” with over 100 million downloads - A moving tribute to his colleague, ally & friend who departed this world far too early at the age of 32. David’s daily commitment to sharing Ukrainian voices & stories with nuance, integrity & humanity never wavered, earning a legion of listeners from all corners of the world including Academics, Ambassadors & Gov leaders. He covered over 900 episodes on the full-scale Russian invasion & war crimes which got David sanctioned by the Russian Federation (he rightly wore it like a badge of honour). As a guest of the pod and later dear friend, I’m so proud of his work & count myself lucky to have been blessed by his gentle spirit, passion & eager generosity. My deepest condolences to his family & loved ones @PeterKnowlesUK & @Telegraph pod comrades @DomNicholls@FrancisDearnley@Barnes_Joe@RolandOliphant@HamishDBG

Occasionally in life, if you are lucky, you meet a beautiful person. David was very beautiful. He also was a supremely talented journalist and through his Ukraine war podcast leaves a major legacy. On a personal note, I've lost a friend.

There are not enough words to do justice to the great friend and colleague we have lost. Curious, imaginative, kind, a personification of journalistic rigour and integrity. Massive 40k fan. Many of us have achieved things we would not have even tried without him. RIP
BBC tribute to David Knowles who led one of the most impactful podcasts ever. Ukraine: The Latest covered events in Ukraine daily with thoughtful, comprehensive analysis and concern. 100 million downloads. Brilliant work. Generous man. https://t.co/qBFnJAwSGh
A moving tribute from the wonderful Ukraine: The Latest team to the brilliant journalist (and cricketer), David Knowles.
An absolute joy to work with.

David was curious, kind and funny. Someone who radiated so much good it reflected onto all those around him.
My newsroom little brother I will miss you so much. I’m a better human being having known you.
Today we mourn the loss of a brilliant journalist, but - more importantly - a magnificent human being.
His listeners included ambassadors and the heads of US departments, but he never changed. He was utterly authentic and empathetic.
Thank you, David.
