The election date is not a rumor or a suggestion; it is a legal fact anchored in Article 136(2)(a) of the Constitution:
"An election of the President shall be held on the second Tuesday in August in every fifth year."
Given that the last General Election was on 9th August 2022, counting five years brings us to August 2027, yes — but the requirement is for elections every five years, not after five years.
Moreover, the Constitution demands regular, predictable elections — and the five-year cycle runs from election date to election date, not from swearing-in to swearing-in.
Kipchumba Murkomen: I am going to ask that those who serve in football federations for more than 8 years recuse themselves.

System Ya Facts
@rochieng Sec, Respectfully, you have & are still at the vantage and strategically positioned & appropriately tooled to activate and marshall organizational engagements that provide a pull for young people, culminating in meaningful discourse and structural reforms, NYC resuscitation etc
INEVITABLE CHANGE :This past Thursday the 20th evening I was on streets in Moi Avenue at night and had a conversation with random bunch of young people who were part of the thousands in solidarity that evening, today for many hours I listened on X-Space dedicated to “Where is Crazy Nairobian?” that went for over 8 hours once again to listen. The young people are loud, bold and consistent on their position #RejecFinanceBill2024 , few things I have honestly picked :
1.This is not a politician driven course but a politically caused one, At one point the political class assumed finality on Kenya’s destiny, this new block has said NO! The course has youth from ALL the divide’s coming together with one Voice In positive defiance to traditional thinking .
2.The young people who are the 75% of the population have equivocally affirmed that they must be on the Table contrary to the strong perception held before that they were passive and unbothered- They have proved that it’s a fact that they are concerned about their Future and they will re-write it their way and by whatever means. The digital space is their big strength and limitless too.
3.The course is turning to a movement that if ignored and not handled in reciprocity , may be underestimated now but by 2027 elections may wipe the entire political leadership . Contrary to what some quarters of us the authorities think …the revolt is issue driven and must be handled introspectively and NOT loosely be discredited politically as it may seem.
4.The young people want to be listened to , be valued by having their input COUNT and in a big way they now want to participate in National Development Matters FULLY. They feel things have gone this worse against them who are the majority because they believe the avenues of addressing their needs are non existent and that includes the young parliamentarians. I asked them about The National Youth Council and they wished such a thing exists, yet it exists but not in a fit for purpose manner.
5.Lastly and the most disturbing one , they told me that there backs are on the wall, they have nothing to loose because they have nothing in the first place ( No job, no food & nothing to hold on to…even hope) Meaning arrests and victimization may just turn the course to a bigger movement that puts the Country on Autopilot and there will be no one to call to the table to halt the new outcomes. Today will be #FreeBilly tomorrow another young hero who is not Billy to glue their resilience and make their belief even much stronger.
W/F: The Finance Bill discussion has mutated to Good Governance & Accountability imperative and therefore it is high time that participation of young people be institutionalized and their real engagement from the grassroots be taken serious realized through a real/deliberate @NYC_YouthVoice run by young people below Age 35 or whatever name it takes and this has to be URGENT, youth participation will be institutional , systematic & sustainable . Calling a few young people on the table is now not a solution anymore …if a Bottom Up NYC was functioning then we would have handled young people’s position on the Financial Bill much earlier and not at the point when they are now disrupting the statusquo. This is a long term solution to the problem that we now have eternally as a Country. Once the goal post is tested , the striker knows what to do next time . The young people have known their potential through this …Therefore this new voice is good for ALL of us to listen and Act right, the young people mean well for this Country. #OneNation . My Personal view after listening to them . @WilliamsRuto@AbabuNamwamba

@CHRIPSKE @Deakin_ADI Over 70 percent of Kenya's population are youth and hosting this symposium in Nairobi is really pivotal to the many initiatives to curb emergency of VE since youth demographics are a vital segment whose participation is key @SDY_Ke @IsmailMaalim19 @rochieng
Amazing opportunity for us to collaborate with CHRIPS in Nairobi yesterday. Especially interesting conversations on the intersections between climate change and violent extremism.
Building synergy in partnership for youth empowerment is the currency of whole-government and whole society approach. @NCCK's Victor Wanyama paid courtesy call to RC Nbi of @SDY_Ke to explore the upscaling our collaborations. @rochieng@IsmailMaalim. Watch this space
What men can do, women...have already done so. Women have high rate of absorbtion and repayment of affirmative funds. Two third of women secured UF refinancing of 3.5 m at Embakasi Central. @AbabuNamwamba @IsmailMaalim19 @UwezoFund@lengapiani@rochieng@SDGoals
