$HIVE completed its first AI research project using GPUs in Asunción, Paraguay, in collaboration with Columbia University’s IEOR department.

The research was submitted to NeurIPS and tested intercontinental AI training, with researchers in New York running workloads on GPUs more than 5,000 miles away.

HIVE says Columbia’s optimizations allowed its A40 GPUs to match H100 performance after normalizing for raw hardware performance in LLM pretraining up to 1.4B parameters.

The data will be used as a baseline for HIVE’s planned Paraguay HPC/AI facility, where a 100MW substation is under construction and energization is expected in September 2026.
