#LestWeForgetIndia🇮🇳 Major Ranbir Singh, Vir Chakra (P), 19 PUNJAB, fought till his last and made the supreme sacrifice #OnThisDay 21 September in 1965 in Jammu & Kashmir during the #IndoPakWar1965

On the night of 09/10 August 1965, a patrol under Maj Singh was sent to round up infiltrations in the Uri Sector. The infiltrations opened fire on the patrol from two positions.

Ordering two of his sections to provide covering fire, Maj Singh led another section and positioned it behind the enemy. Then with lightning speed, he attacked and annihilated the entire enemy force, much superior in number, and captured a number of automatic weapons.

Again, on 21 September 1965, Maj Singh was ordered to capture an objective in Jammu & Kashmir. When he came near the objective, he was met with heavy enemy fire and was wounded in both legs. Despite his wounds, he led his party forward but was hit in the chest by an enemy bullet and killed.

His party, however, captured the feature, together with a number of automatic weapons and wireless equipment.

Throughout, Maj Singh displayed gallantry, resourcefulness, and leadership in the best traditions of the Army.

Just a Suggestion : There should be a 30-second countdown timer above Delhi Metro gates so that people can see how much time is left before the doors close.

Many times people get stuck between the doors and get hurt while trying to enter because they don’t know when the doors will close. Sometimes, if two people are together, one gets inside while the other is left behind.

A timer would give people a clear idea of the time left, so they can decide whether to board or wait for the next train.

#LestWeForgetIndia🇮🇳 A legendary Air Warrior passes away.

Flight Lieutenant Alfred Tyrone Cooke, VrC (Retd), one of the #IndianAirForce's celebrated fighter pilots of the 1965 Indo-Pak War, passed away on 18 September 2026 in New Delhi.

A student of La Martiniere College, Lucknow, Flt Lt Cooke was commissioned into the IAF on 19 December 1961 and went on to serve with No. 14 Squadron, the ‘Bulls’, flying the Hawker Hunter..

On 07 September 1965, when Kalaikunda airfield in West Bengal came under attack by six Pakistani F-86 Sabre jets, Flt Lt Cooke was leading a two-aircraft combat air patrol.

Despite Indian anti-aircraft guns already engaging the raiders, Flt Lt Cooke went after two of the Sabres. In the ensuing aerial combat, he outmanoeuvred the enemy and shot down one Sabre, which disintegrated in mid-air.

He then skilfully positioned his Hunter behind another enemy aircraft, only to find that he had exhausted his ammunition. Undeterred, he kept the enemy on the run until the remaining Sabres fled.

For displaying “great courage, leadership and devotion to duty in the best traditions of the Indian Air Force,” Flt Lt Alfred Cooke was awarded the Vir Chakra.

Flt Lt Cooke resigned his commission in 1968 and moved to Australia with his family, but his ties with the Indian Air Force and No. 14 Squadron remained strong throughout his life.

In a poignant final journey, he returned to India to attend the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of his old Squadron at Ambala.

He passed away at the Base Hospital in New Delhi on 18 September, just a day before the event.

We honour the courage and service of Flt Lt Cooke and offer our heartfelt condolences to his family, fellow veterans and the Indian Air Force fraternity. 🏵️

29-year-old BSF Constable Manju Bhai was shot at BOP Malabela in Sundarbani, J&K, on Sept 19, 1998. Wounded in the chest, he stayed at his post until his last breath under fire. He never left his post. 🫡🇮🇳
