A great basketball player and even better man died today: Willis Reed, Captain of the NY Knicks. I can still remember him on TV, limping onto the court for Game 7 of the 1970 NBA championship. I met him only once during my time in LA. He was very gracious. RIP Captain. #Knicks

I taught my last class one year ago today. It was a course on Post WWII British lit, starting with Auden’s “Sept 1, 1939.” By the end I realized none of my students had actually lived a single day in the 20th century. The next day the Russians invaded Ukraine.
