@Protestia The BFM 2000 says, "Each congregation operates under the Lordship of Christ through democratic processes." Allowing a pastor to appoint any successor, much less his son, is pretty much the antithesis of congregational polity that has long been an SBC distinctive.

@Man4Christ89 @ryanschatz @albertmohler Gentlemen, I think you're re-litigating a moot point. The SBC has already declared itself as fully complimentarian, as reaffirmed in the 2000 BFM. The current controversy is only about how we enforce that stance to keep non-aligned churches from remaining in the denomination.

@albertmohler I fear the "specifically" clause will cause this amendment not to pass. Egalitarian will obviously vote against it regardless. The huge loophole at the end will cause a lot of complimentarians to vote against it too because it is watered down.
